Forgive a possibly silly question - why are there no HP characters?

With the time setting that the game takes place in, it's set before even Harry's parents arrived at school. There aren't many canon characters during that time who would be at the school except a few teachers. I hope that helps a bit.

OK, yep. But by that token, we could theoretically app, say, Bellatrix Black? Since she is nine/ten years older than the Marauders in canon?

If we did allow canon character, you could. Unfortunately they're not open for application.

Hellooooooo! Just a question.
When you say Muggle electronics, do you mean everything?
So not even... Let's say, bombs are allowed?

If the bomb has any electronics in it at all, then it won't work. If it doesn't, it should work, buuut keep in mind that weapons would be confiscated. If you are looking for a wizarding version, dungbombs might be something to consider.

Oh Noz! The FAQ page is lonely! Well, here's a general teacher question =D

Is there any set, specific grading system? Like, are we going with American letter grades, number percent grades, or OWL/NEWT letter grades? I looked in the teacher/student information pages but didn't see anything, and can't remember if you guys made a mod post about it or anything.

I know that the homework posts are informal for the most part, so the grading system shouldn't be too complicated, but John was throwing a hissy fit at me wanting to know how he should grade his Defense classes.

There is no set way of doing grading so people can more or less decide how they want to do it, however most teachers use the system that's most canon--which is the OWL/NEWT letter grades, ranging from Outstanding to Troll. You can decide which you wish to use, but consistency is always awesome.

Thank you! That's what I was assuming, but I wanted to make sure!

Ffff SO Apparition. Would this be a proper class a professor could teach?

It was listed under the subjects on the original Hogwarts wiki so I WANT TO KNOW~ before potentially apping a professor who in canon has a habit of vanishing from closed spaces. 8)

Apparition COULD plausibly be a class, but we're not sure for a teaching position on its own.

Generally, from what we know in canon, it's done by someone appointed from the Ministry and there is a 12 week series of lessons starting in January for people who are or will be 17 by the 31st of the next year. (Some helpful links here and here.) Since it's normally only run for 3 months, making it a year long class might prove difficult.

Mainly, the moderators feel it doesn't really make for a class on its own since it's not really extensive and it seems more like a staff position. If it were paired with another class it might be acceptable, so as an example, a teacher with a regular class who also taught apparition on weekends several times a month could work. Hope that helps!

*fails at life* Okay, stupid question since I KNOW you guys posted information about this somewhere:

What is the limit on detentions? How many can be give out at one time to a single student, and for what types of violations of rules? If there's a form (like with giving/taking house points) where is it located?

If you guys have a link, you can post just that instead of giving a lengthy explanation. *meek*

Don't worry, it isn't stupid! We leave it open ended intentionally since its more an IC thing than something we have to regulate. The closest thing concerning it is here, but we don't have specific RULES on it.

If you need more guidance on the nature of the offense, feel free to be more specific or IM a moderator and we can take it from there as to advice for number of punishments.
