US Presidential Candidate Ron Paul

My sister told me the other day about a candidate for president: Ron Paul. He's one of the 133 congressmen who voted against the authorization of a war in Iraq, which is a nice quality in any candidate for president. Of the other popular candidates, Biden, Clinton, Edwards, Lieberman, and McCain all voted for the war. Feingold voted against it ( Read more... )

I've been watching Ron Paul with interest for quite some time, including his appearances with Bill Maher (where a republican actually drew applause!) and Stephen Colbert. He seems interesting, but I didn't realize he was pro-life... terrible shame, really.

Have you looked at the fledgling Unity '08 "Centrist" party?

I haven't looked into the centrist party, but I will now. I'm not in love with any of the candidates I've seen offered up by the Democrats or Republicans so far.

He's pro-life, but opposed to federal laws regulating abortion -- he doesn't think that's one of the enumerated powers in the Constitution.

Actually, that's not true. Taken from his web site:

I am also the prime sponsor of HR 300, which would negate the effect of Roe v Wade by removing the ability of federal courts to interfere with state legislation to protect life. This is a practical, direct approach to ending federal court tyranny which threatens our constitutional republic and has caused the deaths of 45 million of the unborn.
