The actual comic. And
its wiki.Canon Point: Act 5, Part 2. After Derse is destroyed.
Setting: Nepeta is part of a race of trolls, a species much older than humans. Trolls live on the planet Alternia, in a different universe that hasn't been touched upon other than mentioning there are other races inhabiting it.
In Homestuck trolls are gray-skinned, horned humanoids who are described as being incredibly violent and dangerous. Although trolls originate on Alternia, they are so aggressive that all the adults are members of the Imperial Fleet which flies the galaxy conquering other planets. The only inhabitants of Alternia are the troll children, who are tasked with keeping the troll culture alive.
The reason that young trolls can be left unattended is because the reproductive system of trolls is a bit different than humans. Trolls contribute their genetic material to a being known as the Imperial Drone, which combines them all in an incestuous slurry which spawns the baby trolls, who resemble grubs. After hatching, the grubs must undertake incredibly dangerous trials to receive their lusus.
The lusus is a monster which functions as the troll's caretaker. Unlike human guardians, however, it is more of a give and take relationship. While the lusus will keep the young troll safe from harm, the young troll must learn to function as a zookeeper to ensure their lusus is healthy.
A lusus and its troll share the same blood color, of which there are many. Troll culture is dominated by something called the hemospectrum, in which the different troll blood colors are ranked. It ranges from red (the lowest) to violet (the highest), the higher ranking trolls being sea-dwellers who form an aristocracy which rules the entire planet.
As if this wasn't confusing enough, the twelve trolls who the story features decide to play a game called Sgrub which brings about the destruction of their world. The players survive by entering the game, and battle through it to win the ultimate prize - a new universe to live in, and the chance to repopulate their species. Unfortunately, before they can receive the prize their game is 'scratched.' A glitch brought on by an unrelated session of the game locks them out of their new universe and leaves them nowhere to go.
In desperation the group takes refuge in a place called the Veil, and asteroid belt on the edge of the universe. From a laboratory situated on one of the asteroids they make contact with the kids whose session ruined their own, as well as hiding from the demon which has destroyed the two planets of Prospit and Derse and is now searching for the trolls.
Which brings us to Derse and Prospit, two planets which were only accessible by the trolls' 'dream self' which sleeps on one of the two planets. The dream self is separate from the trolls, and has in canon taken the place of a troll who dies. In a way, it's an extra life. Most of the trolls' dream selves were killed in the destruction of their planets.
Personality: Nepeta is incredibly upbeat and friendly, especially for a troll. She enjoys roleplaying and often inserts pieces of roleplay into her dialogue with others, but refuses to play the more dangerous kinds of roleplaying (such as FLARP). This is only partially because she was banned from such activities by her moirail (fated friend, roughly) but also because her personality doesn't have enough malice for that kind of game.
Which is ironic when one considers that most of her life is spent hunting large monsters with her lusus and bringing them back to her hive, which resembles a cave more than a home. Nepeta is possibly the most feral of the troll children, wearing the skins of her kills as clothing and drawing on the walls of her cave in their blood.
Although she hasn't been seen interacting with all of the other trolls, Nepeta is very interested in their relationships. She keeps a 'shipping wall' on one of her cave walls, which shows all possible relationships for the twelve trolls. Interestingly enough, she only has an interest in the red quadrants of troll romance - matesprits (the closest to human romance) and moirails. This probably stems from Nepeta's love of cute and happy things, and not wanting to think about her friends hating each other enough to form a black romance.
She's very outgoing and physically affectionate, snuggling up to her lusus while using her computer and tackling Equius when he appears on her planet in the game. This doesn't translate to aggression, however. For all her energy Nepeta seems to be one of the most level headed trolls, able to be moirails with Equius, who is described by Karkat as 'the only bigger asshole than me' which considering Karkat's self-loathing is significant. Nepeta repeatedly defends Equius and her friendship with him, telling the others he 'isn't that bad'.
This is typical of Nepeta, who always seems to think the best of people. She gets along with everyone, even the deceased Aradia who comes across as creepy to the others. In fact, she is one of the first to discover Aradia is dead at all.
Although such a positive outlook is almost necessary when it comes to dealing with the other trolls, Nepeta may take it a little too far and over-simplify the actions of others. She doesn't want to roleplay with Vriska, for example, because when Vriska is playing her characters 'do horrible things'. Considering Vriska is the one responsible for crippling Tavros and killing Aradia, this is something of an understatement (it's unclear whether Nepeta is aware of this, however).
Despite appearances to the contrary, Nepeta is by no means stupid. She's aware enough to pick up on the unspoken feelings between others trolls, and knows that Karkat only roleplays with her to be facetious and hurtful. Her cheerful outlook allows her to look past this, however, and enjoy the fact that she's having fun.
Abilities and Weaknesses:
Strengths:
• physical strength. Nepeta is able to tackle to the ground her friend who has been stated to be freakishly strong. She also has spent her whole life hunting giant monsters 'with only her claws and teeth' so she's got to be tougher than the average troll.
• hunting skills. As stated, Nepeta spent most of her life hunting giant monsters. She isn't dead or grievously injured, so obviously she's very good at tracking and fighting.
Weaknesses:
• Age. She is only the equivalent of thirteen, and is one of the more immature trolls.
• Naivety. Nepeta is more likely than not to trust people, and that can get her into trouble.
• Equius. While he isn't in the game, I figured it was important enough to mention. When it comes to big choices, Nepeta will not commit without consulting him first. Often his feelings on the matter are contrary to her own, but she will abide by his decision.
Inventory:
• Blue Claw Gloves (her weapon of choice, seen
here)
• her drawing tablet computer, which because of the wristband communicators will simply be a drawing pad here
• her sylladex, which is a card-based inventory system that allows her to carry things with her. requesting six captcha cards for it, if that's fine.
• a change of clothes
Appearance:
Here she is! Nepeta is, as stated, a troll. This means that she has gray skin and yellow eyes with black pupils and horns. Nepeta's horns are smaller than some of the other's, and conical in shape. She typically wears a shirt with her astrological sign on it and pants, along with a green trench coat that seems to be too big for her. She also has a hat, tail, and booties made out of one of the many animals she's hunted.
Age: 6 Alternian solar sweeps, which roughly translates into 13 human years.

Nepeta hummed tunelessly as she carefully set her computer down next to Pounce and walked over to regard her shipping wall. Equius and Aradia. She had to admit, that was one she'd never seen coming! Equius had certainly dropped overly-obvious hints about his feelings, but Nepeta hadn't pegged Aradia as the type of troll to reciprocate them. Apparently being dead was a lot more complicated than she'd thought.
Still, this might turn out to be a good thing for everyone involved. She thoughtfully sucked on a paintbrush before dipping it into the cholerbear carcass Pounce had brought down earlier in the day. As much as she loved him and would never ask for a different moirail, Nepeta had to admit that Equius was a little creepy and lacking in the way of social interactions. Healthy ones, that is. Vriska and her awful spidersona were never going to count. Ever.
So maybe entering into matespritship with Aradia would help her dear moirail cultivate some more friends outside of herself. The possibility made her smile, because if Equius made more friends then Equius would probably loosen up significantly. And if Equius loosened up, there was an exponentially better chance of him finally agreeing to roleplay with her. Oh yes, she could almost taste the wacky cat-horse shenanigans that they would get up to.
Drifting rapidly off into her hypothetical pretend world, Nepeta circled the panel detailing Aradia and Equius in the flushed quadrant. She stepped back a little to observe her work, deciding to put off recoloring Aradia's panels to reflect her new robot body for a few hours. There would be plenty of time for that later, and she wanted to get back to helping out her client.
"Purrfect." she murmured, grinning a little to herself before setting the brush down and returning to the computer. Another job well done for the troll matchmaker.
