so far in my glorious career and Columbus State i have had teachers that i did not like or even despiesed (sp?). This is obviously understandable it is SCHOOL. Until this quarter however i had yet to run into teachers that were crocks aka had NO FUCKING CLUE WHAT THEY WERE DOING. Teachers in the past were hard, or annoying but they did have good ( Read more... )

as opposed to banning the whole thing and just basically making it a "forbidden fruit". wastedspacejm February 22 2006, 16:10:38 UTC
no shit. look at europe (or the rest of the world, for that matter). look at america. compare the drinking ages. compare the number of alcohol-related deaths. in europe, kids are given alcohol at an early age and tought to use it in moderation. in america, it's put off-limits which only furthers teenagers' curiosity and leads to them drinking. this is a problem because, since they were never taught to moderate themselves, they get shitfaced and do stupid stuff like drink and drive.

i'm going to stop before i rant as much as your entry, but the whole driving drunk thing is probably my biggest pet peeve ever. if my friends have been drinking, even just one or two drinks, i won't get in the car with them (although at that point it's more for legal reasons since they're underage...if my dad has a beer with dinner and then drives us home from the restaurant, it's different, seeing as he's not drunk. still though, it makes me really uneasy).

ok now i'm done, i swear.

i know what ya mean man, it's worse when my teacher spoke so much on that one PERSUASIVE speech, just because she did not agree with it doesnt me she had to bitch about it, what's worse is she did not admit to disagree she just said the speech was bad, lol dude there were bad speeches today, his was not one of them, hell he convinced the whole damn class that his idea was a good idea lol

Okay, first, I'm totally down with the idea that kid had. Does anybody else think it's silly that at 18 we can die for our country but we can't have a fucking beer before we do it?

And second, there are way too many profs out there who don't know what they're doing. I get at least one per quarter. The most annoying still has to be the Astrology teacher I had (and I dropped the class because of him and took it the next quarter) who decided he'd rather talk about politics rather than the course material. Needless to say it got super annoying since my views and his definately did not mix.

She is right in one regard: Genetics can influence whether you have an addiction prone personality. However, alcohol abuse can be influenced by environment, but not genetics. Nature vs. Nurture, its a nurture thing. Most countries, you are drinking before you drive. France and England have no drinking age, in Germany its 16... all those countries you must be 18 to get your temps, and they have 3 levels of temps before a full license. This country is just retarded on a lot of things, if you haven't noticed. :-p

teachers are supposed to stay neutral on speeches. it is an opinion that a person is talking about and defending....of course it will be convroversial. someone needs to have your teacher reevaluated for the obvious bias and unprofessionalism she seems to be practicing.

Genetics redrouster February 23 2006, 15:14:09 UTC
Just to let you know that genetics do have alot to do with how much you drink and how often you do drink. It also plays a fact in your tolerance level. But you are right it is the person's choice if they pick up that drink or not, but if it is in their blood and they happen to get those certain genes, and they are exposed to it. They are more than likely going to drink. Not all siblings get the same genetic make-up. But I do not think that she should have jumped all over him for his presentation, especially if it was well researched, and he was speaking the way he should have been. No teacher should interupt a speech just because they do not like it, freedom of SPEECH, religion, press, petition, and assembly. She should keep her thoughts and opinions to herself or discuss them with the class not try to over bear people and stundents with everything she believes. That's what leads to good discussions. Sorry I am rambling. Just felt like talking to someone! Have a good day and I hope your classes get better! =)
