I would have to agree with you about the Ripley's Believe It or Not, it is actually based on a series of books that I read when I was a child. It was filled with "factual" stories from throughout history. These BOOKS were "filled with outrageous tales and left it up to the reader to decide on the truthfulness" of the story. One I remember in particularly was of a nearby ship unaware of what they thought was a blinking light of a lighthouse was actually the Titanic sinking. Do you believe the story? Ripley's leaves it up for the reader to decide...The show (which I have seen glimpses of, so they may do more, but I've never seen it) really only shows people doing stupid things, like walking on a tight rope from one hot air balloon to another...
