The reasons I haven't updated in a LONG time are manyfold; the short answer is that blogging just hasn't interested me much these days.  There's no denying the phenomenon has caught on like wildfire--especially in the political spectrum.  So shouldn't I be more into it then?  Maybe, but I tend to lose interest in anything that becomes widely ( Read more... )

Hey, long time no talk. I just wanted to say that I totally agree that college does not prepare exiting students for presenting themselves to future employers. Finding a job sucks, and it really makes you feel like such a waste when you have to settle for taking a job that has nothing to do with what you want to do. I had to do that, but I did luckily find something in my field. Good luck with the job at Dell. Hopefully it'll be a start to something good. :)

It's unfortunate, but it's comforting to know that it isn't such an uncommon problem. I agree totally--to keep being rejected on the grounds that "Oh...he's 'just' a college graduate" really waters down the accomplishment, which is a shame considering the huge investments involved. But it's worked out for you, and sooner than later, it's gonna work out for me, too :). Thanks for the support!

I feel like I've lost touch with a lot of people lately as well, mostly due to school and time conflicts. Last night was a real eye opener-- I've forgotten how I used to be, so it was interesting to see Johnathan's reactions to how I am now. He's his usual self, of course. A bit more jaded but what can you do?

I'd like to suggest some books for you, if I may:
The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Steven Covey
I Dare You! by William Danforth
The World is Flat by Thomas Friedman

I admit that I've worried about you, as a friend. I care about you and I've noticed that the spark in you has somewhat faded. What are you really passionate about? Once you figure out what your passion is, go with it. Do whatever you can to pursue that passion ( ... )

I'm glad you understand that what I say is coming mostly from frustration...and annoyances...that have developed in my life. It's true, ever since graduating I feel like it's been a different, sub-par existence for me. My remark about church was not intended to target Breakaway in any way. I was referring to church in general (and I'm sure THAT will offend someone else) but indeed the Breakway people are contrary to this--they are exceptional people and I'm sorry I've lost touch with them, too. And it's not that I'm worried about people thinking whatever they are thinking, but I have that feeling most places I go--it's more of an observation. And it's not like people are "worse" about that sort of thing when they step into a church setting--but I don't think they're much different either. But I'm not worried about it..and I'm not particularly angry about it...because people can't help it. It's a basic tendency of human nature that happens ALL THE TIME, and to think any different would be giving humanity WAY too much credit ( ... )
