You know,

part of me was hoping, that in the event Bush was declared victor (as he was) that there would be riots in the streets, social unrest would abound, protests from the roughly 50% (47%? 45%?) of the people who *don't* want Bush to be the dictator leader of the country unify and make their voices heard ( Read more... )

we did unify and make our voices heard. it's called voting, and 55.3 million of us did it for Kerry.

however, that was not enough. Bush won both the popular vote and the electoral vote, and decisively so. rioting in the streets on such an outcome isn't justice. we lost, fair and square.

as you say, we'll need to get our shit together and provide a candidate people can really get behind for 2008. it's really too bad the Dems didn't run Dean.

bleh

stage a revolution perhaps?

meh

it would be nice to have a candidate who's entire platform isn't "I'm not Bush"

what a sad state of affairs...

Call me crazy, but it seems more rational to hope that Bush will get his shit together and stop fucking things up than it would be to hope for the opposite.

Neither do I, but just remember, some of us actually have to live here. :P I don't want things to get too bad.

Um, not to be hugely pessimistic, but remember my ex- Bill? Tall skinny guy, talked about politics A LOT? Well, I called him right after the election the first time Bush stole the vote in 2000 in near hysterics. Bill calmed me down by telling me that Bush would be so ludicrously bad that the entire Republican party would essentially fuck itself and all would be well at the end of 4 years, or as soon as the Dems took over Congress.

I think this was the only instance of Bill making a wrong political assessment.

At any rate, my point is, I'm not putting much stock in the intelligence of the American people or the Democratic party to get their acts together.

On the plus side, the folks who are hoping to emigrate to Canada now will be your kind of people! :)
