I suddenly realize i'm not as web savvy as I was 10 years ago

Just a quick question to the net-pros on my list:

where's the best, easiest, cheapest, and most reliable place to register a domain name?

Never really done this before so I do want someplace that's reliable. Webspace is not a problem - I just want the domain registered.

Best != easiest != cheapest != most reliable. Which of those traits is most important to you?

Best: Judgement call, depending on whether you want convenience, reliability or economy.

Easiest: A lot of people seem to use Godaddy. I haven't heard any nightmare stories about them; considering how awful registrars can be, this might as well be glowing praise.

Cheapest: I think it's folly to shop for registrars by price, frankly. The playing field is fairly level these days, so you're only looking at a difference of a buck or two a year, no matter where you go -- and registering at a flaky place will have you wishing the Internet never existed in the first place.

Most reliable: I've been using Dreamhost for nearly three years now. They register domains as well. My (very biased) reliability vote goes here. HOWEVER, if you don't plan on hosting with them, I'd recommend registering your domain name elsewhere. They really lean on you to host through them.

i've used both godaddy and networksolutions in the past month. NS was cheaper and we had trouble forwarding the domains we registered with godaddy.
