On your list, I only hit up Romania and I -- I'm not sure I recommend. I spent a day in Bucharest and it was definitely interesting as hell: there was a museum I really liked, and delicious coffee/pastry, and you could still smoke in the cafes! (Which probably isn't a plus, but made me feel very old-world-y, like Brodsky or Szymborska or someone else oppressed like that.) But on the con side, it was a straight-up unhappy city: decrepit buildings, really poor neighborhoods everywhere, very uncomfortable to be tourist-ing in. It was the only place in my travels that someone tried to pickpocket me, and on the overnight train out of there I shared a compartment with a drugged-out dude who babbled in Romanian and creeped me out majorly.
Go to Russia! St. Petersburg! You'll be there for the crazy nighttime sun, right? Alsotakemewithyou.

Ahh, thanks, I hadn't even looked into Russian visa stuff yet, and it was a long shot anyway, so that may not work! But oh man, I hope you go and post all about it.
