I am HOME and thrilled about it. The first world, guys. All potable water and non-malarial mosquitos. Although I caught some kind of bleurghy cold on the flight back and spent the first week sneezing like crazy and waking up at 4am because jet lag is a party. But things are better now. I'm settling into a rhythm of obscene domesticity. ( Read more... )

I'm so sorry for loss, darling. Your uncle sounds like a loving generous and enduring sort! 104! Holy smokes, that's impressive.

I'm really happy that you're home and delighted to be there! I think you absolutely made the right decision about that. And I hope you manage to get things sorted out with your insurance company soonest!

Hey thanks so much for all this info, it's really helpful, and I'm saving it for later! In my case it turns out to be that it's so expensive they make the doctor jump through a couple of rounds of pre-authorization, proving that no other treatments will work for me, blah blah. But it finally worked! My faith in the system has been kind of restored.

Oh, well, only restored inasmuch as I think insurance companies are 90% pure evil doing everything they can to turn a profit! But, you know, what are you going to do? It'll be really interesting to see if this kind of stuff (the preauthorization, the trying to get you on different meds) changes after the healthcare law provision kicks in where they have to refund excess profits.

Welcome home! I hope the medicine situation gets straightened out, how frustrating!

I'm so sorry about the loss of your great-uncle. He sounds like a wonderful man.
