I've pretty much decided to go to Venice at the end of July. It's not generally the optimal time to go, but a couple of weeks ago the New York Times had an article about Ghetto 500, an observation of the 500th anniversary of the establishment of the Jewish ghetto. I was hesitant at first because I already have a rather pricey trip to Barcelona

Edith Wharton and Henry James are two of my favourite authors. Have you read 'The Wings of the Dove'? Part of that takes place in Venice.

I've not read that one, but will try to do so before I go. James spent a lot of time in Venice, and I have a book of letters that he wrote from there.
