Yes I am finally in San Francisco, The trip that I have been talking about for months (nay years) has started!
Oh, and let me tell you how it started!
After staying up till about 4 to force tiredness, and therefor sleep on the plane, I finally crashed. Then next morning We get up and the family finish packing and the taxi, a megha people carrier, got loaded up (big harp and all) and headed out towards Gatwick, pleased with ourselves that nothing had gone wrong. What fools we were.
We arrived at Gatwick with plenty of time to spare, and rested while dad went to find the gate we needed, safe in the knowledge that we had chosen the easer option of flying out of Gatwick, instead of the dreaded Heathrow. Until dad came running over to say there isn't a flight leaving from there to San Francisco, it was leaving from Heathrow. Goodie.
As dad got someone to call over to the other airport Gwen franticly called our megha taxi back, which was luckily only 10mins away. after some lift confusion, we loaded up again and were racing to Heathrow.
Even with some wrong turns, we managed to get to the correct airport 1.30hr before the plane left, which meant we had time. Our baggage check lady was very nice, and after saying that we didn't need to pay extra for the big harp( something we had planed on with the new rules) she said we had made her day. The feeling was very mutual!
Poor Briar (the cat/house sitter) came along to witness all our 'fun' as a fail safe in case the small harp could not go through as hand luggage, but again the gods were smiling on us and it went through without a hitch!
Compared to the start of the journey, the rest was fairly boring, but i think that was ok with us. The flight was really empty, so after takeoff we moved to were we had a bit more space and chatted and slept and watched some films (I watched Sleepless in Seattle, cos sometimes you just have to, and Marie Antoinette, the modern interpretation of miss Marie's life. It was as advertised, and although i liked it, I didn't miss not seeing it till then.)
Upon arriving (also no problems) we went our seperat ways, me to
cadhla and them to Kathy Mar's place. I got to experience what i assume was rush hour, based on the time and the people on the train then got picked up by my host and Cat (whose lj i was told last night but, come on.) Then (according to Seanan's post) we wnt to Sweet Tomatoes, and i was presented with large amounts of salad and soup (2 things that make Anna's very happy indeed) followed by frozen yogurt, yum! all in all, a nice evening, although i can't remember what they talked about!
Todays plan is to read
cadhla's comic and possibly watch some Bones *biggrin* and generally do little, until i am taken to yoga this afternoon followed by more people!
Wow, I can't believe that I'm actually here, and I'm gonna spend the first day reading House of M. It's good to be me right now!
