Star Wars Relevations

Whoa, just finished watching Star Wars: Relevations, and I have to say, I was totally blown away. I first read about Relevations in the Technology Review's article on intellectual property. The general gist is simple, George Lucas has an interesting deal on his copyright of the Star Wars franchise. Authors and such are allowed to freely make ( Read more... )

Well, don't give them too much credit.
It's not at the level of a real commercial production yet.
It's still really cool, though.
The graphics are really impressive. I think the biggest dissapointment is that some of the spaceflight stuff is really clunky, so the constant switching back and forth between high- and low-quality stuff looks weird. Some of their sets also feel really photoshopped. Still cool.
And the acting...I wouldn't say it's better than I/II. Course, I've probably always felt that the acting in I/II got a bad rap-I'm generally inclined to blame that on Lucas giving them terrible material to work with. But there certainly is no Liam Neeson in this cast.
Except that Vader is freaking awesome. Got the voice right. And. Force choke. And. *love*.
It's still really cool.

oh, I had thought that Vader was the weakest link... though I guess it was an impressive job given that they couldn't hire James Earl Jones.

As for the level of a commercial production, I dunno... some of the movies lately have been utter... well you get the point. And for an all-volunteer effort, its pretty good.

As for the graphics, apparently the fact it was a global volunteer effort led to the changes in quality, as each volunteer would be using different software to process each scene.

I thought it was about as good as you'd get without really having him, yeah.
True, some movies suck. But it wasn't as good as, say, Star Wars.

And as for the graphics, that would make sense.
