2 Things politically important enough to me, that I think important enough for everyone else to know. If you have a moment, please read this, even if you're not into politics. These issues will probably weight upon our nation without the spread of information.

Burma. What a waste. In the last months, theSaffron Revolution was led by Buddhist monks ( Read more... )

I'm not an Ann Coulter fan, but isn't what she's saying just a blunt way of putting what Christianity is? Christians believe in the same God as the Jews, only they believe in Jesus Christ (and Jews don't), making them updated, "perfected" followers. Muslim doctrine holds that they're updated and perfected compared to Jews and Christians too.

She said nothing about their worth as people, just her religious beliefs, which didn't sound out of line to me.

Concur. She doesn't phrase things particularly well, but fundamentally I didn't really see much to be offended by. News flash: most people with strong ideologies believe the world would be better if everyone else agreed with them. Film at 11.

EDITED:

To me, and many others, "perfect" referred to something better, her comments seem to bluntly suggest a higher quality of human being among Christians. While this may be the Christian belief among certain groups, this is speech directly correlating superiority with a creed, what if we were to say that Christians should "perfect" themselves into Muslims? She remarks that her ideal America would be Christian. Imagine if one of us were to say that my ideal America would be a Muslim state. We'd be thrown out of the country. True, there is a long history of Christianity in America, Christianity has been the basis of much of our laws and culture. But at the same time, we have also celebrated our differences as a nation, and at least in the message we send to the world, we call for people to be accepting of each other, without respect to creed, sex or race. Maybe it's time to change this?

Well, I thought the whole point was to segregate Christians vs non-Christians - in that, e.g., Christians go to Heaven, everyone else goes to Hell. We don't like talking about it, but there it is - Christians go to Heaven and everyone else goes to Hell. That's just her religious belief. And yeah, I'd say if you think you're going to Heaven and others to Hell, that could mean you think you're a higher grade human being than the others. She's not very pleasant or bright in expressing this, but again, there was nothing inherently offensive in what she said to me, it was just not pleasant to hear.
