I can see why that would be extremely annoying. I'd be mad with frustration.
And honestly, it's just my opinion, but I think feeling guilty that you can buy a dishwasher, in a busy household and in a culture where these appliances are common, is a waste of guilt. I'm personally starting to get tired of apologizing for being white and middle-class, myself.

It's not feeling bad about buying the dishwasher, it's more a realization that I'm incredibly privileged compared to the rest of the world, to have even a sink & clean running water, much less a dishwasher. So complaining about the installation delay seems a little petty :) Yet, in the scheme of my daily life, it *is* a pain. I guess it's realizing that I'm above the bottom level of the pyramid of Maszlow's Hierarchy of Needs.

Seriously, I will never rent another home without a dishwasher... it's been hellish without one. :P It sucks to have to hand wash.
But for a long time we were without even running hot water- and I suddenly had a LOT of empathy for the part of the world who didn't even have THAT much, as I had to boil water to wash dishes or myself...
But still? You paid for the dishwasher and installation, and the plumber... they aught to freaking live up to thier end and install it. It's what you PAID FOR... ya know? all 'entitlement' issues aside- you bought and paid for a service, and you have a right to be annoyed that they're not giving GOOD service.
