Caffeine interrupts calcium absorption. My sister has insufficient parathyroid gland tissue so she has to take huge quantities of calcium or she will gradually have a heart attack. If she even eats one square of chocolate or drinks one cup of coffee she can feel her fingers tingle and tighten from the calcium interruption.

Hope you do well on the no caffeine!

Are herbal teas a possibility for you? I can't have much caffeine, and have discovered a passionate love of rooibos teas, among others.

Also, there are mate teas, which claim to have something other than caffeine that gives the same pick-me-up as caffeine...I'm not sure how much I believe it, but I don't feel as crappy after drinking mate as I do after drinking black tea, so who knows?

*hugs* It gets better. The first few weeks are the worst. And when in doubt, the majority of the different kinds of root beers are caffeine-free, too. :)
