This guy at work has been suggesting movies to me lately and he kept telling me to rent Hard Candy. Wednesday morning, I got to work and found a DVD of it on my desk. It turns out he had bought it and decided to lend it to me because he thinks it's a "must-watch". That night, after pausing it several times I managed to finish watching it and I can ( Read more... )

I saw that too. Aside from not being a must watch and the disturbing material I didn't find it entertaining. And my criteria for movies is pretty low, as long as it's entertaining. Exactly why I like Desperado (chalked full of violence - but done in an entertaining way, IMO).

3-Iron was a good one I saw recently. The lack of dialogue between the hero and heroine I thought was particularly cool.

I'm sorry it's taking another hundred years (as you said) for me to write. I keep meaning to do that, but I get somehow distracted. No big changes here though, just some minor ones. I'll write soon, I promise!

I gotta agree with you on "hard candy"... I saw some of it, and I remember thinking 'wow, this movie thinks it's way smarter than it is..."

It's the Poke-the-audience-with-a-stick school of film making...

Yea, it seemed to want to make a sensation and outrage. That's a stupid way of getting attention. It doesn't mean its controversial, although that's what people say about it.

Exactly. In the same sense that, just because everybody thinks you're wrong doesn't make you Galileo, Showing a bunch of shocking images and ridiculous, nonsensical plotlines doesn't make you a genius film maker.

Yes I has issues with the plot line too. I didn't think I could mention it though since I mentioned Desperado. But that movie is different. It's Rodriguez doing his angry Mexicans - it doesn't try to be serious.

There is a girl at my work who recommended a movie to me and she won't stop badgering me about wether or not I have watched it. I hate people pestering me and trying to make me do something that they know I will love, especially when they don't really know me very well.

I watched the end part of that movie. The only thing I remember about it was thinking 'this movie blows and I never want to see it in full.'

I absolutely agree. Not only do they not know you, but even if they did, why do people think that everyone loves the exact same thing they love??? I hate when people do that to me and it's happening allll the time!
