Iran fiasco ceciliamarie23 April 19 2006, 14:42:35 UTC
According to someone whose name I won't mention on unsecure lines, an attack on Iran will happen sometime in the next two weeks. It will be of a nuclear persuasion.
We're going to hell. This didn't even go through congress. What is this? A fucking dictatorship?

If a women has an orgasm in a forest and there isn’t a man around to see it, did it happen? ceciliamarie23 April 19 2006, 15:01:31 UTC
Of course a sexless woman is hopeless! What good does she serve? She's a useless commodity ( ... )

I think its about spectacle as well. Men are almost amused by the whole concept. It goes beyond the traditional "just a good dicking." Although I do agree that the overall reaction is a defense mechanism. The interesting thing is that women don't need them, and for that matter other men don't really need other men. By the by I greatly enjoy the us and them mentality. Is this what its like to be black? I suppose it must be very lonely to be a guy. Dunno. Glad I'm not. Incidentally, we would all have sex with each other. In my mind, given some of the women I know, this would be a simultaneously glorious and dreadful day. Oh, and I might get eaten out of existence. And now I'm done.

Of course it's a spectacle, as I said earlier "for entertainment".
And the "us versus them" thing hasn't really been part of my psycology recently. Yesterday, the things that Ellie said sort of woke that up. Although female solidarity is sadly lacking.

I don't think I can exactly equate spectacle with entertainment, although the two often go hand in hand. I think that entertainment is about enjoying something, and I just don't believe that this is actually happening. When the Romans were slaughtering 500 lions a day under Caligula, it wasn't about entertainment. It was about spectacle, it was a show of power and the excesses of power. Pornography is a symbol of the patriarchal society--women wouldn't come up with an idea like porn--we simply have better things to do. As for the us and them mentality, I think that any show of solidarity requires this initial mindset to some degree. I think that this is unfortunate, but true nonetheless.
