I really need to stop vanishing from LJ for weeks at a time.  I can't remember the last time I updated or checked anyone's journal.  I fail D ( Read more... )

It's like everyone went to Osaka this winter! I should have definitely gone home instead of settling in Tokyo for a while first!

Your presents sound great. It's always nice to get things you actually like!

Hopefully you won't come down with a cold! It's really going around!

I only went home once for Christmas in all my 5 years here... the one time I went I realized it was a big hassle because of the terrible weather. I had flight cancellations and delays even more than usual from snow. Not to mention, I was only able to go home for a 2 week period so I had jet lag the whole time D:

I think going home in spring or summer makes more sense, because my breaks are longer and the weather should be nicer. I potentially have 2 or 3 months in spring and 6 weeks in summer (because my contract is 9 months and the end/beginning of the school year are non-working times for me).

I feel better today, so hopefully the fever was nothing serious (^^)

I got to spend the year with my family, so who knows when I'll be going back! But yeah, after five years, it would be nice for you to go back, even if it is just a short time...

Even if the jet lag is annoying on top of that.
I never really have jet lag when I go visit a place. It's only when I return that it hits me.

I spent 9 months at home in 2010/2011... I just meant in the 5 years spent living in Japan (put together) I only went home for Christmas once.

I get jet lag when I go AND when I come back (>.<) usually when I go home it gives me insomnia and when I come back I sleep all the time.

Osaka will forever < Tokyo. FOREVER!!

hope things start lining up nicely for you over the next few months so you can book tickets to the US, get a new phone (YAY!) and just generally have more certainty about the future and all the things that come with that. i know how that is. ;(

also, i hope you get well soon. :)

Waiting is definitely the pits, right? Not a lot I can do but prepare for the worst case scenario... I think I might try to get rid of anything I don't use much just in case I have to move.

Don't worry!
I haven't updated my LJ in ages either, mainly because I was never home. Just came back from my winter vacation trip last week and from a wedding yesterday. So busy! x___X

Hope you get well soon! :)

And I had my old phone for 5 years until I finally decided to get a smartphone! ^^;

Yeah, almost everyone has a smartphone now but I still have an old flip phone. I'm not really into the idea of being obsessively attached to my phone, so I don't want to get anything I will use too much. I seriously sometimes forget to use my phone at all on weekends. I just have it in case I need to meet up with people.

Oh, I loved my flip phone, but the reason I got a smartphone is that I really needed one for my trips through Japan!
My phone bill kept getting ridiculously high for just checking train times and other info I couldn't get at all with my phone.
E.g.: I passed by a castle in the train and had no way to look it up until much later.

It's so convenient now. I'm not attached to it but it is helping me so much when traveling, I swear! ^____^

If only Japanese plans would be cheaper! -_____-;

Of course I can see the functionality of a smartphone. My boyfriend has an iPhone and when we go places he always uses it to find where the station is or where we can find different shops and restaurants.

But when I think about paying 6000 yen a month or more for the fees, I don't want to switch. My current phone contract usually costs me around 2000 or 3000 yen a month.
