NSSS's : My Viewpoint

The Valentine's Day NSS has been announced and comments have been made about how people feel about them. I've never taken part in the 14th February parcel grab. I know there isn't many fellas on BCUK, I'm not really a hearts and flowers man (although I can be, if ever you get to speak to Mrs molekilby) so wonder if any extras won't be for me. As (I think) you know I only do the regular/'original' NSSs (Christmas, Easter, and the Back to school' September one). I think part of the problem is that here have become too many. For me, squeezing in the Valentine's and Halloween NSS's is almost greed. And I also think it adds pressure to those who, as you admitted, feel left out but if they're honest are perhhaps not in a position to do a NSS, and, perhaps, don't send as good a parcel as they might. The flip-side of that of course is that nobody is forcing anyone to sign-up (or not, as the case may be ( ... )

Thats exactly how i feel hon...and why i dont take part anymore. When ChelseaGirl suggested putting a £5 limit on what people buy, she was shouted down.... I'm sorry, but i totally agree with that, there should be a limit IMO

Anything like this always brings out the competitive nature in all of us. If the rules stated that the contents of the parcel must be one book and one other item then we would still add that extra thing "just in case".
A monetary limit is a good thing. It means you have to work harder to break the rules.
I am able to make things to send if I were to join in but I have never yet seen anything like this end up without there being a discussion like this and sometimes a lot of bad feeling so I tend to stick to book swaps and Virtual book boxes.
