I’m doing Knit Around the Clock again this year, Loopy Yarns’ fundraiser for the knitting program component of the Women’s Justice Program at the Cook County Jail. I’ll be knitting from 6 am through midnight on April 27 (18 hours). Let me know if you’d like to make a pledge! More info from the program flier:
For five years the women in Division 17 of the Cook County Jail have been knitting and crocheting for 3 hours a week. The program offers them an opportunity to learn or enhance the skill of knitting and/or crocheting; make projects they can be proud of; complete something they have started; build self-esteem and self-worth; work on anger management skills; learn to relax and build community.
This event propelled by Loopy Yarns is a fundraiser to support the women to have yarn and equipment to make projects for themselves and family members. Many of the women have aspirations to change their lives and be productive individuals within their families and communities. This fundraiser will help make these aspirations become a reality.
Please become a sponsor and/or donate an item that can be raffled off for the knitters as they raise money around the clock. All donations are tax deductible and should be sent to Loopy Yarns. Please make checks to: Committed Knitters/Southside Economic Development Project.
All sponsors will be listed in advertisements and sponsors donating over $500 will be given the opportunity to put their logo on a tee shirt with other sponsors.
Thank you for your support in helping women empower themselves in their communities. Let us all be a part of breaking the cycle of violence and abuse.
The knitting program was started by Loopy Yarns customer and social worker Jo Anne Smith; you can read an interview with her about the program
here.
What will I be knitting at Knit Around the Clock, you ask? Maybe something just for you! Every $5 you pledge will give you one chance to win one of the fabulous prizes listed
here on my Pinterest page. Send me your choice and your head or hand circumference along with your donation, and you will get one chit per every $5 you donate in a drawing to determine my knitting project for the marathon.
Note: Will be knit from my stash, so colors will vary. Please advise of any fiber allergies. Must receive entries by 5 pm April 26. Fitting on Innsmouth mittens is rather more up to the recipient than the knitter.
