I’m lumping a couple memes into one post, I apologize in advance for the length. Thanks to
gilpin25 for putting it together.
1. What are your fanfic writing goals for this year? Do you want to try a new ship, genre, rating or style? Tackle new characters?
All of the above, most likely, but probably not as much as I’d like.
2. Do you have any New Year's updating resolutions?
Not really. I can’t commit to any kind of schedule. Real life just interferes too often.
3. Do you have original writing goals for the year?
A series of ‘The New Frog and Toad’ stories for children, starring a toad named
Trevor with Antonio Banderas’ voice? His catch phrase will be, “Lick me.”
Nah, I don’t think that’ll work, somehow. Though I do think it’d be highly entertaining to write young children’s books that adults like to read.
4. Which of your fics are you most looking forward to getting completed? Do you want them finished before DH comes out? Do you have stories planned out that you are yet to start?
All this planning stuff. I can’t do it. I barely know what tomorrow’s going to bring.
5. Any exclusive previews/extracts/hints of things to come that you’re prepared to reveal to your trusted f-list?
Well, I have this idea that involves a pitchfork…
6. Have you learnt anything in the last year of fan fic writing that you hope to continue to make a conscious effort to improve on this year?
Brevity. It’s a good thing.
7. What's your current burning fanfic desire(s)? (ie - 'Oh, I really must write a story where...’)
Again, the pitchfork.
8. Which updates of other people's fics are you most looking forward to?'
Honestly, I have something like 89 saved alerts (from all the ffdotnet crashes) that I haven’t caught up on. If anything, I’m grateful for loooong pauses between updates at the moment.
9. Do you have any plot-bunnies that you don't think you'll have time to write, but would love for someone on the f-list to try? Describe the bunny here, and see if you get a volunteer...
Hm. *consults list* Adventures in goat trimming with Aberforth?
10. For those who also do original work, do you find that with the seventh book coming out, you're willing to put that on the backburner since you know the window of fanfic opportunity is shrinking?
Yes. My photography/modern nursery rhyme book is definitely on the back burner. Has been for awhile. Actually, I wonder where it is…
11. After DH comes out, do you think you'll still be as active in the fandom? If most of the important questions have been answered, will you still write fanfic?
I don’t know how active I can be considered now, but I’ll be working more, so I’ll be writing less, most likely.
12. If you are writing a WIP that contradicts DH once it is released, would you start writing according to the book 7 canon, or would you continue on with your original idea? Would you amend any previous fics if assumptions made have been proved false?
Not really applicable. I wouldn’t change anything that’s finished, I’ll simply add a “Pre DH” note.
13. If your favourite character(s) dies, will you take it like a man/woman, cry like a baby, or dedicate your life to AU fics where the deed doesn't happen at all?
I’m really counting on Dumbledore’s, “You can’t be killed if you’re already dead” speech to Draco to feed the fanfic obsession. They resurrect people all the time on TV…
14. After the seventh book is released, will you focus on "after the war" style fics, or "before the war" (eg: Harry still in school)?
Probably after the war fics.
15. If you stay active in fandom post book 7, will you continue to focus your stories on canon characters, or do you think you will be more willing to venture into the realm of original characters?
There are so many canon characters I don’t see a real need for me to create any more. The few OCs I do have really are off in their own little world anyway and are not so much fanfic as crackfic.
16. Have you ever had to defend the idea behind something you've written from critical reviews? Has it impacted on any future projects?
Yes. It was a controversial theory and I cut it out in my recent editing effort anyway. The reviewer changed her name after I was through with her, though… But even without the negative reviewer, I probably wouldn’t write it into anything else.
17. Will you consider doing NaNoWriMo this year?
Highly, highly doubtful. I can’t even keep up with my f-list and rtchallenge.
1. I always sleep on my side and can’t sleep without a pillow between my knees and ankles to keep the bones from rubbing together.
2. I moved into my college dorm on my 18th birthday and received my diploma on my 22nd birthday.
3. Coastal Alaska is often warmer than where I live.
4. I hate the loss of feeling from Novacaine so I have dental work done without it. Same for epidurals during labor. Never had one, never will.
5. I can do a cartwheel and land in the splits.
6. From a standing position, I can bend over backwards and touch my hands on the floor. Never had gymnastics, or maybe I’d have figured out how the rest of a back flip is supposed to go.
7. I have twelve computers in my house right now, and three more arriving on Wednesday. Most of them will have gone home or have new homes by Friday.
8. I also have an in-home daycare and will have three to six preschoolers in my house every day this week.
9. I nearly took off the top of my thumb in a meat slicer once. I wrapped it, did the dishes with my other hand, called in my replacement co-worker and calmly proceeded to the Student Health Center.
10. I may have a stupidly high resistance to pain, but it is balanced by my stupidly low tolerance for eating noises. I have to wear headphones with the music up loud whenever my husband eats sunflower seeds. I can’t stand the noise.
