I look back on the things adults got me to do as a kid, things that are dangerous. But I never felt in danger.
My mother's best friend was married to a Navy SEAL, a Vietnam Veteran, and we would all go to the beach. He would give us swimming lessons. I was probably in the safest place on earth swimming with that guy. He was right there in the surf. I got pulled under and dragged a few times, sand in my suit. But I would pop back up like a cork. He'd say, 'you gonna do it like that again?' and laugh when we said no.

At that moment she was so grateful that we had taken so many swimming classes so that I didn't panic but was just excited that she "found my hand." :)
