Please Watch Your Kids in the Pool!!

While I was just rambling, I remembered something else I wanted to chat about. Kailey was swimming incredibly well last year with the aid of a float suit. This year, she wanted to try swimming without the suit, so we went into the pool to let her try. I was standing right there, but in the space of less than a second, she went from "I'd doin' it

I remember swimming in the ocean when I was about 6. Waves breaking above my head, head high to adults. Rip current. Being urged to time the waves, stride in, dive before it broke. Come up on the other side. I was not as coordinated as the other kids, legally blind without glasses. But I got good at it with practice.

I look back on the things adults got me to do as a kid, things that are dangerous. But I never felt in danger.

My mother's best friend was married to a Navy SEAL, a Vietnam Veteran, and we would all go to the beach. He would give us swimming lessons. I was probably in the safest place on earth swimming with that guy. He was right there in the surf. I got pulled under and dragged a few times, sand in my suit. But I would pop back up like a cork. He'd say, 'you gonna do it like that again?' and laugh when we said no.

Thats what makes you such a good mom...You pay attention, You actually think about things and are ready to do what is necessary. I'm commenting on both posts btw lol.....

When I was about 3 or so we were at the beach and my mother was watching me out in the water. All of a sudden a huge wave came and covered me up and I didn't come back up. My mother flipped out and started sprinting out to me. She fished me out and I came up sputtering, "Did you see my hand?! I was holding my hand up so you could find me!"

At that moment she was so grateful that we had taken so many swimming classes so that I didn't panic but was just excited that she "found my hand." :)
