When you are lifting, are you doing very few sets with very few repetitions? If so, you might be hurting yourself, which would explain the extreme pain. You should be sore after lifting but not to the point of inability to walk.

Well, that was the first time I had done it ever. I did 2 sets of 10 each per weightlifting machine, as per the advice of my friend.

I can walk, sort of. I just have to sort of waddle around.

It hurts less every time you go, especially if you stretch.
