i'm fascinated with naturalbirth. its so damn educational. reading Ina May has been, too.
but what's been the most enlightening thing that's happened to me since the day i picked up The Red Tent was the realization i had (while sitting at the dinner table with my parents, grandparents, and cousins) that i was allowed to tell my family: "if you don't have ( Read more... )

What IS IT with conventional women and doing that to each other!?? It so gross and un-magical these days and women let it happen to them. :( You kind of had a reverse epiphany of what I had. I grew up not in america thinking that child-birth was amazing and spiritual and my mother was born at home..ect
And then after actually being pregnant here and being subjected to modern medical care......I was like 'WOW everything I was taught was CRAP!AND NOW I HAVE HUGE BILL TOO!!"
And now. NO KIDS FOR ME. I'm Done stick a fork in me.

But you...you go girl! Hell Yeah taking pregnancy back! Lets hear it for birthing rights and what it SHOULD BE! I know that here mid-wives are actually a big thing for at home births. I am so happy that you have a support group of older pagan ladies to help you out!
Does this mean that I can start sending you baby quilts in earth tone gender neutral colors??!!! :D

I grew up in family full of women having children, and I don't think I ever got the gory details like that. But I did get the idea that kids are natural and wonderful, and I learned on my own that hospitals aren't. my friend Ally is a nurse and she'll tell you that an episiotomy is only needed if the baby is flipping huge and the mom is already tearing, and if the doctor does his (or preferably her) job right, the mother is prepared for the birth and won't tear anyway.

I decided when I was about twelve that I'm not having babies flat on my back, pushing against gravity, just because some doctor wants an easier seat.
