I work in the children’s section of a bookstore, I’m a book nut, and I’m of the age where all my friends are procreating and I’m set to start any time now. Babies are everywhere I look. Books, TV, moms one-upping each other during play dates. Everywhere. Our culture has turned Parenting into a spectator sport. We live in the Cult of the Child, and ( Read more... )

:D thanks! i've been toying with the idea of writing a Before And After momoir, part one being me sitting here pondering these things, part two being me with baby going "OH, OKAY!" or "Nope, still think its BS." of course, thats something of a long-term idea. i'm not sure where else to try to publish things like this. i dont know if the parenting mags would be interested...

There's an article submission thing called MyWritingAgent.com that will find places to send it for you. I'm not sure if it's a paid account-- I got in on the Beta because the girl who made it goes to school with me, but it seems to work really well!

Other than that, Writer's Market has tons of places. There's got to be an off-beat parenting mag out there somewhere!

I love the idea of a before and after. You could even have a pregnancy memoir in a second book between the two! Or combine them all into the most comprehensive mommy-maker book ever.

Emmy I worked in DAYCARE for 4 years and saw ghetto moms turn out kids that were JUST FINE.
Seriously.
Love yourself first, your partner second and love your kids enough so that they know they can have a kiss whenever they want it and a swat on the bum whenever they deserve it.
You will be a GREAT mom, because you Love life and are your own person and you lead by example. And that is what kids need to see.
