Barbarians were not really all that bad. Just German or Swedish guest workers, like much of the foreign talent we have now (minus the raping and pillaging, one hopes).

Haha. I think the question is whether "the barbarians" refers to the truly barbaric or to a group of people stereotyped as barbarians, (In any case, the barbarians are merely used as an analogy. The phrasing could have been "That's about as good as telling a wolf to behave like a sheep in public even if it still wants to eat the three little pigs.")

Saying "Sentence the person who is found guilty to jail" isn't the same as saying "Sentence anyone who is arrested to jail."

Having high standards when it comes to competencies is not discrimination. We can't possibly employ illiterate journalists for instance (unless perhaps if we are the ST). Discrimination sets in when factors that have nothing to do with eligibility/competency are allowed to influence employment decisions.

Working for discriminatory ape who pays peanuts? Well, maybe--if bimbotic kitty is desperate enough to behave like a monkey. So if ape hires bimbotic monkeys even though bimbotic kitty can do the job just as well or better. But ape might think that kitty will not stay long for peanuts, but monkey will stay long for peanuts and employ monkey instead.

ST can make shit look good. But it also looks plastic and is exposed easily. Not very wise to go into cosmetic surgery.
