A ruby Tuesday

So I had a pretty mellow weekend. Ryan was down for a couple of days, and I just saw him off on the Greyhound bus back home to Peterborough. Sigh. Lordy, I miss him when he's not here. We had the best time, just watching movies, chilling at Starbucks (WARNING: do NOT try their new green tea frapawhatever; failure to heed this warning will ( Read more... )

I'm curious what rhythm you were tapping to get "3-and-a" in a 6/8 time signature. it sounds like a quarter, two eights, eight note triplet...then...THEN???

and my fingers are crossed too :)

That's so funny! I just got back from class, reread my post, and was like, "WTF did I type??!??" and corrected it. In case that doesn't make things any clearer, we were counting IN 6/8, but adding little flourishes at odd times and trying to figure out how you'd count THOSE, hence getting all over the place. We were cracking up cause he'd do something requiring such small subdivisions we couldn't count it, and he'd just do them without counting, and . . . I guess you had to be there. But once we cut the eighth notes into four and added offbeat rolls, it was giggle-o-rama. For us, anyway :)

I was wondering myself what the "3-and-a" was. It's definitely doable - actually, if I'm doing it right in my head, it sounds really cool. Bah-bahdah-bahdahbah, bah-bahdah-bahdahbah. But... now I think I've put it in 3/4, actually. Or 3/4 in 1, which is mathematically the same. Hmm, now I've got something to ponder. Hmmmm.

Mathematically, indeed, though the note value is different so we were wondering if the counting was supposed to be different, like do e and a have to be sixteenths? Or could they be 32nds if you're subdividing eighths?? Not like it matters at all . . . we were just rambly. And why did you avoid my question about long distance lover???

Congrats on the potential new job! It seems like everyone around me is moving on to bigger and better things. You never really gave me any details about it though, so you know I'm all freaked and wanting to know. What department? lab? project?

(I'm a geek.)

It's sad really but your description of the green tea frappuccino only makes me want it more. Rob says he likes it, you said it's bad... now I think I need to see where my taste buds lie.

It's not just me!! Ryan pretty much SPAT the damn frap out, it was that bad.

And in answer to your questions: My T.A. for BIO250 told me that there was a supervisor in the department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology that I would hit it off with; I emailed him, we met, he interviewed me for two hours or so (he asked me if I ever wanted to have my own lab, I said "God no, the patriarch role is not for me, I'd rather be the matriarch like Yeqi" . . . and I thought you'd appreciate that). Yeah. So Dr. D and Mo wrote refs for me, plus I dug one up from Dr. B who I was with before Mo . . . and, yeah . . . guy likes my refs and personality. He said he doesn't have straight-A students in his lab, he prefers B kids with "stuff going on in their lives." His projects, I recall very dimly, are pathway identification in cancer? breast? embryogenesis? Don't really know. I was kind of stoned, remember? Anyway, the job would start in September, which would be groovy groovy groovy . . . me in the faculty of Med would be SO COOL . . .

I hope you get this! It sounds very cool and I like the guy's attitude (B students with stuff). Sure makes for a better lab environment that A students with sticks up their asses.

We can talk more tomorrow.

On the bright side, I have always found funny incompetent doctors far superior to incompetent ones with no sense of humor. At least you come out of the first with an amusing story.

"Hmmmm, I have no idea what to do with THIS."
"*nervous laugh* Well, I'm glad you're a trained professional."
"And I'm glad you won't remember any of this."

Well..... that's one way of looking at it, I suppose :) Only you ....

Any sign of your present yet???? Don't look at the customs tag, BTW cause they made me say what it was.

I call into my job all the time like that. I really shouldn't though.

I always thought that green tea in almost anything tasted pretty gross.

And patellas have nuts and crumpets don't. That's the difference between the two, right?

*laughing* I wish my bio tests weren't all multiple choice so I could rip that off, like . . .

81. Describe a significant difference between the cis cisterna and trans cisterna in the Golgi apparatus.

Me: The cis cisterna has raisins.
