Sunshine Cleaning
Rose Lorkowski (Amy Adams) was the most popular cheerleader in her high school, but now, 15 or so years later, her life isn't exactly what she wanted. She works as a cleaner/maid, is still sleeping with her highschool sweetheart Mac (a police detective), who is married to another woman, and she finds it hard to look after her imaginative young son Oscar. Oh and then there's her eccentric father (Alan Arkin) and somewhat bratty younger sister Nora (Emily Blunt). She desperately wants to make something more of her life - a career in real estate, for example - but when Oscar is kicked out of school for being disruptive, she needs to earn more money to provide for better schooling, and so takes up Mac's suggestion of cleaning up crime scenes after the police have finished their work there. Rose and Nora open this new business - Sunshine Cleaning - and start to learn more about work, life, love, and loss.
This movie is definitely in the 'drama' category - it tugs at the heartstrings without being too schmaltzy - but there are a few touches of humour too. In the end, it's all about the family relationships, which I'm sure most of us can relate to.
