Help Wanted: Idiots Seek Geniuses To Do Job Of Some Kind

I just can't imagine why this company is having trouble finding a qualified candidate...

Kelly IT Resources is currently recruiting candidates for a Technical Writer. Assignments will be focused on writing validation documentation for software development and deployment in a regulated environment. This is a temporary project for a well established medical device company.

Development Tool(s) and Platform(s):

* Windows 2000 -MS Word 2000/XP Technical
* Experience performing technical writing, research, and related editing functions to prepare business reports, manuals, SDLC templated documents, software validation deliverables, guidelines, and other written materials.

Qualifications:

* Excellent customer service, interpersonal, communication and team collaboration skills are essential.
* Able to work well with little direction and in a team atmosphere.
* Ability to triage effectively under pressure.
* Direct telephone interaction with business unit professional.
* Excellent communication, interpersonal, teamwork, verbal, written.

Methodology/Certification:

* Bachelor Degree in Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.

Experience Requirements per Category:

* Technical Writer - Novice
* 5 years of software documentation experience

Let's see now...

Could it be that they can't make up their minds about the level of experience they want? Last time I checked, having 5 years of experience documenting software would place a potential hire a bit beyond the "Novice" category.*

Or could it be that they are seeking someone with a "Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science or related" degree, despite the fact that the qualifications they are seeking have nothing to do with any of these fields? I wasn't aware that you needed a technical degree to learn how to use Microsoft Word.

Maybe this is just me, but if I had a Mathematics, Engineering, or Computer Science degree, I'd be looking for a much better-paying job as a mathematical analyst, engineer, or computer programmer, respectively. People who want to be technical writers get degrees in English, Journalism, or ... I don't know ... Technical Writing.

Maybe I should start a website ("idiotsseekgeniuses.com") for people to post stupid job listings ... if only so that employers might eventually start to figure out "what not to do."

* This is the one thing that makes me want to strangle job-writers more than anything else. Do NOT list a job as "Entry Level" and then state that the position requires "3 or more years of experience" in the field! If it requires more than basic familiarity with the field, it is NOT an "Entry Level" job!
