Gone with the Wind - London

The musical!  .....it's had the most dreadful reviews but my mother already had tickets so we went along with her theatre club to see it last week in London.

Trevor Nunn is the director and I've seen great things from him in the past so I really didn't think it would be too bad!

Well...it wasn't quite as bad as the reviews I'd read - probably ( Read more... )

The actors were great! I really felt for them - my critisicm is nothing to do with the acting or singing which was all fabulous given the weak material they had to deal with!

4 hours of Hamlet I can cope with - and I need two intervals for that!

Jackie is continually threatening to take me to a musical, but I'm afraid I just can't do all that singing and acting mixed in together...

That having been said, we did see a local production of 'The Slide' which was a musical based around the songs on The Beautiful South, so maybe I could be convinced...

I adore musicals - they're great, but go for a proper one with REAL songs! Not the kind of modern boring forgettable stuff which was in this!

I heard it announced this morning that it's closing after 79 performances.

Still beats the musical about Oscar Wilde by that smug eejit Mike Read that only lasted one performance.....

Well it's sad - I really feel for the actors, they were all very professional and it was the whole show - nothing to do wiht them, it should never have been a stage show.
