Parenting in Ghostland

The past few months I've been in a boot camp of the mind. Once a week a sensitive and highly educated therapist comes to my house for two hours. We usually begin by chatting about my daughter's growth milestones, or good books, or the weather. These are subjects I'm "good" at, that I can skate through comfortably and with a dose of humor ( Read more... )

WOW! How wonderful you are doing this. Berlin is so fortunate to have a mom who is aware and committed to her best interest. Having children does bring up the deepest, oldest pain we hold. Shining the light on these darkest shadow parts can be scarey but the pay off is huge. The ability to experience true joy and be present in the moment is a gift to the child and parent. If every parent participated in this type of therapy and committed to healing, we would have a healthy population and be on our way to an end of crime, war, drug abuse and perversion. Parents usually think that they are the teachers for their children. How "eye opening" is it when we become aware that our children are our greatest teachers? Kudos to you!

Thank you for such a thoughtful comment! When I was pregnant with Berlin I knew parenting would bring challenges along with joy. I anticipated and prepared for stuff like sleep deprivation, being busier, working harder and spending less money on myself than ever before--I think I did a really good job of that, and none of those things truly surprised me or caught me off guard. But the past psychic issues--whoa, holy ton o' bricks. Didn't see that coming! I'm learning to live in the moment with her, and I believe more and more that this type of healing should be made accessible to every parent!
