Cell advice needed

I need to get a new cell calling plan ASAP (and desperately need a new phone, but that's another matter). I will need good coverage throughout New England, but primarily in eastern/metro-west/central MA. So, Bostonians: how's your cell coverage? Would you recommend your network?

any preference on the type of network (GSM vs. CDMA)

majority of friends and family on a particular network for free cell to cell minutes?

we use verizon in our house and the coverage is great for the area but the prices aren't the cheapest. other plans have rollover minutes of course and other gimmicks so there's definitely lots to think about.

Ditto. Verizon's coverage is almost always the best, but their prices and packages are not.

I forgot to mention that I've been a mobile customer with them for 9 years. No complaints, although it would be nice to have roll-over minutes.

I have Cingular/ATT/whatever. Bug has Verizon. Coverage-wise, I say Verizon, hands down.

I used to live in southern NY, traveled a bit to MA, and never had any problems with Verizon.

We have Virgin Mobile, and it's a pay-as-you-go plan. It's ideal for us, since we don't use our cell phones very much. Once a week, maybe? It's $0.25/min for the first ten minutes per day and then $0.10 per minute after that. And you buy time in $25 chunks. We probably refill once a month.

We get coverage at our apartment, at our new house, and at Target. That's all I need! :)

I have Helio and have had it for about a year. I've had NO problem with them at all, though, admittedly, I live in Los Angeles, so I don't know how helpful that will be to you.

Through the years, I've had Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile. Verizon... the coverage was GREAT, but the customer service and prices suck ass. AT&T wasn't bad, but the phones left something to be desired. T-Mobile was great, I was with them for 3 or 4 years. The reason I switched from them to Helio was pricing.

Helio, if you use your phone a lot, has a fantastic unlimited plan for $99 a month. You can even add a second line to share your unlimited minutes for $35 more.
