IIRC, you put a piece of brown paper bag down on top and then iron it to melt the wax into the paper?

This is what I have heard too. Absorbent paper, warm iron. Repeat lots and lots.

Have you tried "Goo-Gone"?

if brown bag doesn't work, does wax paper?

NO! Don't iron wax paper, it'll melt all over your iron!

I've had success using boiling water and a fine-toothed comb, but if you've got padding under your carpet, you might not want to do that. Also, formula 409 is surprisingly good at dislodging wax.

Sorry, forgot the clothing... you can just dip the clothing in boiling water and hold it under. The wax should melt and, since it floats, lift free. Obviously I don't know if these are delicates or what, but as long as you let them hang dry, you should be all right.

I think for the clothing you can stick it in the freezer, it sets hard and then you can scrape it off with a knife. Sorry I can't help with the carpet though.

That probably works too. I just said boiling water because wax is what I use to dye fabrics in patterns, and you get rid of the wax and set the dye by washing the fabric in boiling water.
