try very hard not to have any..life...is ...hard...but, serious thoughts, get in the way..of enjoying the funny..part..which, in irony..can be pretty funny..even to those who have lost everything, in the hurricane, maybe, for the first time in their lives, and maybe for the zillionth time, their is a gift that God gave us, that helps us get thru.. ok, so i talk to myself when i write too, but, i am a big seinfeld fan,!!, didn't used to be, but, i finally get his humor..finally..anyway, i had a thought about an episode, where jerry is responsible for one of his aquaintances being in the hospital, so feeling guilty, and also, in competition with a dentist friend who is trying to make it into the comedian business, well, it is the way i remember it, anyway, jerry, is trying to make this guy laugh, nothing but, nothing works, now, tho, when everyone, even george comes in, even george, gets a smile from this guy..well, so, jerry, finally, comes up with a improv..that is trys on this guy,..and this guy is eating while jerry, is doing it..this guy finally laughs...and then chokes to death..get it??..i did..

It does help! It's one of the things that Charles and I are trying to learn when we argue -- we call them "repair attempts" (well, the book we have calls them that), and they can be anything that helps connect you when you fight, but for us it's something funny usually, like calling each other a silly name or something. Also what works is hugging, too, but the funny stuff can work over the phone and online, you know? So that's especially valuable for us.

Anyway, the other thing that I do is watch "feel good" movies. Some of my favorites are Legally Blonde, Only You, Legally Blonde II (ha!), Troop Beverly Hills (yes, really!), Miss Congeniality, and First Wives Club (which I've got for tonight!).

That works too.

Love you!
Heidi

P.S. I'm about to go babysit for my friend Kelly but I'll be back online later tonight.

I have this image of God expelling Adam and Eve from Paradise. Just as they are crossing the threshold into our world God calls to them and says: "Here, take this with you. You're going to need it." And he hands them humor.
One of my LJ friends sometimes comments on his own posts and even replies to his comments. I find it gives a delightful insight into his thought process.

You know, you kind remind me of my roommate- but she has yet to discover the whole humor thing. She has Marfan's syndrom (some genetic thing that really screws up connective tissue) and fibromyalgia-sp? (whatever that is, it puts her in hella pain) and she's only 23 and ADHD. The Doctor's are ALWAYS giving her conflicting information as to help her, and one actually sent her to a chiropractor, which is a big no-no for people with marfan's. Then people at the Marfan's clinic tell her to not do anything that hurts her, but due to the fibromyalgia EVERYTHING hurts her, and she's on like, 4 pain pills and 1 heart pill right now, I think. The doctor up here (she just moved in with me to get away from her rather uncaring and abusive family) also told her she couldn't work but when she brought in a health form from the welfare people so she could get the Hoosier Card (kinda like Indiana's version of Food stamps) her Doctor marked all the things that SHE IS ABSOLUTELY unable to do, like lifting, pulling, etc. as things that she can do, and ( ... )
