Seeing as how I'm way behind on most current (as in after the 90's) tv shows this might not be the best meme for me to do, but I can never resist a good meme.
Day 01 - A show that should never have been canceled
If I was answering this question a week from now, I'm guessing (based on friends' reactions) I'd probably pick Firefly. But seeing as I'm only on the 3rd or 4th episode...
This is a hard one. There are so many shows out there that were canceled before they should have been. Angel (though I could have dealt with Angel ending, the fact that it happened right after a major cliffhanger was not cool), Pushing Daisies, Jericho, Tru Calling, Farscape, etc. If I had to choose one though, it'd be...
They're always being canceled or end up having to jump networks just to stay alive. Most of them end long before the 10-seasons that SG1 made it to. It was a good run. Some people may go so far as to say it was SG1's time. But I think there was at least another year or two left in the show. Not to mention the fact that the Ori storyline hadn't been resolved.
Yes, I know there are movies (two so far, and supposedly more on the way), but it's not the same. Movies aren't created in the same way that television episodes are. There's a different feel to them. And since they're limited to a couple of hours (as opposed to a couple dozen hours during a season), things always feel more rushed. Plus, I'd much rather get to see my favorite characters defending Earth from alien threats once a week instead of a couple of times a year.
Stargate SG1 was a good show. It had a huge following. The writing was still just as good (if not better) as it was in the beginning. There was still plenty of new storylines to pursue and explore. It wasn't getting stagnant and the actors were still interested in playing their parts.
So in my opinion, Stargate SG1 is one show that definitely shouldn't have been canceled.
