After a long while of paying little to no attention the visual kei scene at all, I decided to have a browse round of current bands and the like (in part spurred by the fact that I hooked up one of external HDs last night and got all nostalgic over some of the music on it) and... Well, obviously times and music change but man. The music is so ( Read more... )

I think you could say the same thing about most music scenes really. I remember being fourteen and being SO HAPPY bumping into other people that were in to, idk. Rock music, for instance. I grew up in an area where listening to anything "harder" than Linkin Park was pretty much freakish. But getting to know the people into it through the interent really sucks the fun out of discovering these people because you know they're out there, thre's more of them than I thought and most of them are either shallow and vapid, stupid or assholes or any combination thereof.

AS AN ASIDE I don't think it's really... that shallow to complain about the looks. It is a big part of VK, it's in the name even! I love seeing how bands styles develop both visually and audibly. I think one of my favourite things is when a band gets to that point where they go "okay, we don't need to dress up so much for lives and interviews anymore." *stares pointedly at gazette* Even though it's not the be-all and end-all and it doesn't work for all bands (I though SID would ( ... )

yeah, I know how you feel :\ I sort of miss the scene, but at the same time, I'm getting quite a bit too old for it, and anyway the music just doesn't appeal to me anymore. Even when I was still living in Nagoya two years ago, I was ALREADY too old xD But still, it's always nostalgia that makes things seem nicer.

There was something immensely satisfying about finding other fans of that little group that you stumbled across entirely by accident

Totally get this. Though I don't.. whats the word.. follow(?) VK, I get that feeling with some other bands/groups...

To be a little more general - I mean, X Japan was the farthest I could go :P -, I think it's more of... things change and what we liked about it may not be what remains. We all get Old Dude Syndrome with age. I mean, Friday night I spent a long time talking with my friends about how annoying teenagers are and... dude, I'm 21! So I guess I mean we all get old. Sadly. :P
