WOW, hi there, LJ. It's been a while, huh? Uni's been busy, I'm in my final semester (which is all sorts of terrifying), and I have a shit load of work to do. But I'm doing my best! lmao after all of the concerns from last year, I definitely feel better about things this semester/year. I've not even been ill once so far, which is a sharp, sharp ( Read more... )

Hi. :) I watched a 3 part series on Japan and it enlightened me as to the darker and more unsavoury side of Japanese culture, it's really put me off the country. :( I don't really know why I'm telling you this, I think it's because you're the person on my flist who knows about Japan, so maybe you could dispell some of my fears?

I could definitely try. I mean, I really enjoyed my time out there although, obviously, it's not a perfect country. Was there anything in particular?

Um, well, I found out that the age of consent is 13 and that child pornography is tolerated and quite open in society... And they showed a sex doll factory which made child dolls... The man who ran it said he was happy to sell them to paedophiles to try and prevent them sleeping with real children. It just sent a chill down my spine. I mean, is that sort of thing really so common and permitted in everyday society? :S

I did just have to look some of that up lmao

As for the age of consent, officially it is 13, but ACCORDING TO THE JAPANESE WIKI PAGE which I just skim read because of the Child Welfare Law, it's generally considered to be 18, and that the number of people who actually know and recognise the age of consent as being 13 is probably quite low ( ... )

Youuuuuu. I haven't seen you in foreverrr except occasionally around anoncomm lol since I stalk that place. I'm glad things are going good for you in uni! Personally, I haven't been doing much other than watching an inordinate amount of BBC and Battlestar Galactica.

Bad dubbing aside, how was the Gantz movie? :O

yoooou ♥ lmao I stalk that place too. Thank yooou.

Mm, the BBC. It does do my favourite shows.

It was good! Definitely enjoyable. For certain, I'll enjoy it more when I can watch the original since lmao there were bits with Japanese text + translation on the screen and ...I was like 'even I could translate this better X('

Hi Laura!! Long time no see! Nice to hear from you! Good luck with your last semester of college!!

January/February 2012 I will be in Korea. I just got a job in Suwon (city about an hour south of Seoul) at an English Village and will start March 7! So I'm flying out on the 2nd or 3rd (the company's in the process of buying my ticket so I'll know by Monday or Tuesday).

Other than preparing for that (I finally got the visa this week), I've just been hanging around at home since the end of October (spent 3 weeks in Korea before leaving Asia). Haven't been working either, so it sucks not having an income, but at least I'll be starting work again soon.

HEY I'm Atreyu452, I gotta name change. Was Gantz worth sitting through the horrid dub? I can wait if it's not.

I've fallen behind Arashi auurgh but uuuuum in a week I leave for a job in China. o_o I'm glad to hear that your semester's going well!

Uh, well it depends on how much importance you'd place on good dubbing. It was an enjoyable movie for sure, but I definitely wouldn't watch the dub more than the once.

l-lmao I've been behind on Arashi stuff for at least 1.5 years sob

Good luck with China, though! Glad to hear you got the job!

they're all starring in CMs and such, no biggie. jun and sho... ah, Sho has a movie coming up. the surgeon one. Kami-sama no Karute?
