It really helps me that the library emails me three days before things are due. Otherwise I would never take anything back.

I am ashamed to admit that I have totally given up on ever using the library responsibly again in my life. However, Ananda maintains/holds onto her own card and checks out and returns things on her own and is responsible for her own fines, and that's worked out very well for a year now - partially because TLC meets weekly AT a library, but partially because she is obsessed with and voracious about reading and so she constantly needs new things and is paranoid as hell about fees (because there are weeks at a time when we do not attend TLC, they break for summer, etc). I try to just be proud of her and not feel extra pathetic ;) Since my younger kids ONLY ask for videos at the library (wth?) I don't experience a lot of guilt telling them no while she checks her own stuff out. She feels really cool because she knows how to get on the library website and request things be sent to our branch, and then she pesters me incessantly until I take her to pick them up after she's notified they've come in. She was REALLY irritated and eye-rolly ( ... )
