All of my childhood I craved the icing that goes with refridgerated pilsbury cinnamon rolls. In my teenage years I would throw away three of the rolls so I could have more. I decided when I was an adult I would buy packages and just eat the icing. Same with the cheese from kraft mac and cheese. Well now I can and I no longer want to ( Read more... )

I think you have a very good philosophy here and admire you for not raising pampered children.

I can remember growing up wondering why so many insisted on having the name brand jeans or something, when the others worked just fine. Or the idea of saving, of having limits. So many little ways we teach and practice self-control.

I know of one family near us who give their children everything, simply because they have the money to. And what has this bred? Children who think that money can get them anything, who refuse to accept consequences. The older at least is smart, the younger one is failing in many ways.

Too many forget that just because we can, doesn't mean that we should.
