Chapter 1

*~*~*~*~*~*

“Yuya…Yuya…”

Tegoshi heard a voice call his name, a voice he had heard before but couldn’t really associate to a person. He tried to tell himself that it was just a dream, and that he could continue to sleep, but when the owner of the voice started to shake him gently he had no choice but to wake up. It was light in the room, and Tegoshi blinked a few times before opening his eyes completely, meeting Masuda’s sweet smile when doing so. The man laughed lightly. “Good morning.”

Tegoshi gave himself a moment to think before replying, still feeling somewhat confused. “Good morning…” He felt awkward; it was embarrassing to face Masuda now, considering what had happened the night before. Masuda didn’t seem to mind though, he just smiled and handed him a glass filled with some liquid Tegoshi didn’t know what it was.

“It’s for your headache.” Masuda smiled. “I figured you would probably have one since you drank so much yesterday.”

When Tegoshi thought about it, his head really did hurt like hell, it had been stupid of him to drink so much, but he was thankful to Masuda who had thought about it. He took a few sips from the glass and then smiled towards Masuda, rather awkwardly, but still genuinely. “Thank you.”

Masuda shook his head. “Are you feeling better?”

Tegoshi bit his lip and lowered his gaze, he would have liked to avoid this topic, but that was more or less impossible. “Well…I guess.”

“I got worried when you just…broke down like that.”

Tegoshi avoided Masuda’s gaze and stared down at his hands. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean for that to happen…”

Masuda patted his head and smiled. “You don’t have to be sorry; I just got scared that I had hurt you or something.” He was silent for a moment, probably searching for the right words. “Maybe it isn’t something that I should ask; I don’t even know you, but…have something happened?”

Tegoshi looked at Masuda, feeling surprised, but happy too. Happy because someone cared about him enough to ask such a thing. And to be honest, as long as someone actually did care about him, it didn’t matter that it was someone he barely even knew. Even though Tegoshi had that feeling, he didn’t know what to say to Masuda. The stinging truth? Or should he make something up, something that wouldn’t reveal his true emotions and make him less vulnerable? No, that didn’t feel right. Masuda had put up with him when he had been like that yesterday; he deserved to know the truth. That’s what Tegoshi’s heart told him, and for once he decided to listen to it. “You were just so gentle with me; usually, people aren’t.”

Tegoshi tried to smile in order to hide the tears that were close to gathering in his eyes again. “It reminded me so much of…persons I used to love. Persons that in the end deceived me, and abandoned me.” Tegoshi cleared his throat in order to hide a sob. “Your gentleness made me remember feelings and moments that I thought were real. But in reality, they were just a lie.”

Tegoshi lifted his gaze to glance at Masuda, whose expression was different from what he had expected. His eyes was filled with pity, and he looked at Tegoshi as if he wanted to tell him that it was alright; alright to cry, and alright to be sad.

“If that’s what has happened, then I pity you. You deserve better than that.”

Tegoshi lowered his gaze again and shook his head. “I don’t know if I do deserve a person who loves me. There’s so much you don’t know about me, things that would probably scare you away.”

“Like?”

Tegoshi felt his heart beat a bit faster when Masuda moved closer to him, looking into his eyes with a kind smile on his lips. Tegoshi found himself stumbling over a few words, something that barely ever happened to him. “Lots of things…I’m…”

He wasn’t able to complete the sentence, Masuda’s lips covering his in a soft kiss. The man was blushing slightly when they parted, like he hadn’t really meant for that to happen. “Sorry that I kissed you, but I couldn’t find another way to stop you from badmouthing yourself.”

Masuda patted his head lightly, a thing that made Tegoshi smile slightly inside. “Sure, I don’t know you, but you deserve to be happy just as much as everyone else does. If you have done stupid things, then you just have to turn the page and start afresh. So don’t say bad things about yourself; you deserve true love, no matter what you may think.”

Tegoshi just stared at the man in front of him, trying to believe what he had just said. He didn’t know what to say, his brain wanted to oppose what Masuda had just told him, but his heart just wanted to thank him for being so sweet and saying such words. In the end Tegoshi didn’t say anything at all, but he managed to smile towards Masuda, and he hoped that the man understood his feelings just through that small gesture. He seemed to do that, because he smiled back and squeezed Tegoshi’s hand. “Want some breakfast?”

He changed the topic rather suddenly, but Tegoshi didn’t mind at all. He just nodded with a grin on his lips. “I would love to.”

Masuda apparently hadn’t started to cook breakfast yet, so while he did, Tegoshi sat down on the couch in the living room. He liked Masuda’s apartment; it was clean and fresh, but still not impersonal. Masuda seemed to be very interested in fashion, and a bunch of fashion magazines law on the table beside the couch, neatly sorted. Tegoshi decided to glance through one; he wasn’t fashionable at all after all, so some advices would be most welcome. He grabbed the magazine that law uppermost in the pile, but then he felt his heart stop for a second. Because underneath he could see himself on the cover for another magazine.

He took it up, looking at himself staring into the camera, looking sexy, yes, but nothing more. He barely recognized himself in that picture, it didn’t look at all like the Tegoshi Yuya he knew he was, and it scared him. Not like anyone cared for who he really was, his personality obviously was of lesser importance compared to his looks anyway. Tegoshi woke up from his deep train of thoughts when he heard Masuda’s footsteps coming in his direction. The man smiled happily towards him. “Do you like fashion too?”

Tegoshi shook his head. “Not at all, honestly.”

Masuda looked a bit disappointed; maybe he had hoped to find a shopping-buddy in Tegoshi. He looked at the cover for the magazine Tegoshi was holding, and his eyes soon became wide as he stared at him. Masuda pointed at the picture, his mouth open in surprise. “Is this you?”

Tegoshi nodded slightly. Masuda smiled towards him, widely. “I knew I had seen you somewhere, now I get it! So you’re a model?”

Tegoshi nodded his head. “Sort of.”

Masuda giggled slightly, it was so adorable that it made Tegoshi smile. “This has to be fate of some kind.”

Tegoshi looked at Masuda sceptically. “Why?”

“Because you’re the model for my favourite brand!”

“What?” Tegoshi didn’t believe this at all. First of all, it didn’t seem like Masuda wanted to spend the night with him because he was a celebrity if he didn’t even know until now that he was one. And secondly, Masuda had just told him that he thought it was fate because Tegoshi had modelled in clothes of his favourite brand. None of this was logical at all, it couldn’t be real. Or had he seriously met a person that didn’t care at all about his looks and his profession? He had to ask, that was for sure. “Hey, Masuda…”

The man looked at him, smiling. “What?”

Tegoshi swallowed. “Why did you start to talk to me yesterday?”

Masuda tilted his head to the side and smiled. “Because you seemed lonely, and I wanted to comfort you.”

Tegoshi stared at him. “That’s it?” Masuda nodded. “So you didn’t want to get into my pants or anything?”

Masuda shook his head. “It wasn’t included in the original plan, but when you softened a bit I couldn’t resist…sorry. But really, I would have thought that something was wrong with me if I had been able to keep my hands off you.”

Tegoshi couldn’t help but laugh. “What?”

Masuda’s cheeks took a deep shade of pink, and he lowered his gaze as if he was embarrassed. “But I couldn’t say no to your begging eyes…you look like a sad puppy, do you know that? And I surely can’t resist such eyes.”

Tegoshi gazed at Masuda, his heart aching a bit. “Did I look…sad?”

The man nodded. “You looked quite broken, actually. I got sad when watching you, so I…wanted to make you feel better.”

That had to be the sweetest thing someone had said to Tegoshi for a long, long time, and he threw his arms around Masuda’s neck, hugging him tightly. The tears made their way down his cheeks again, but it didn’t matter, nothing did right now. “Thank you.”

He felt how Masuda patted his back, his warm hands wandering up and down Tegoshi’s spine; and suddenly, the world felt a little bit warmer.
