Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3 Chapter 4 Chapter 5 *~*~*~*~*~*
May fifth. The sun shone brightly, and the wind lightly brushed against Tegoshi’s face. This day was exactly like four years ago, the day when Yamashita had passed away.
Tegoshi sat down on his knees In front of a grave in the graveyard and put down a bouquet of flowers, red roses, Yamashita’s favourite.
“How are you, Tomo? I hope you’re feeling fine, because I am.” Tegoshi smiled and looked at his ring finger, where he wore two rings. One of them was given to him by Yamashita on their fourth anniversary, the other one was the one that was matching the one he had bought for Masuda at his birthday about three years ago.
“You know Tomo…I’m happy again. I didn’t want to at first, being happy with someone else than you, but you would feel bad if I would waste my life like that, wouldn’t you?”
Tegoshi fingered on the rings and closed his eyes for a while. “Massu loves me…just as much as you did. He did something that I never thought anyone could achieve…he healed my broken heart.”
Tegoshi let a single tear escape his eye. “I hope you can be happy for me, Tomo. I’m happy again, but it’s not because of you…I hope you’re not jealous. But on the other hand, you always wished for my happiness, didn’t you? Even at the bitter end you did.”
Tegoshi smiled and wiped away the tears that had started falling.
“Tomo…I want you to be happy too. I still love you, but I love Massu too. He will take good care of me, I know he will.”
Tegoshi smiled and stood up. “I can thank you for this life, Tomo. I will be happy, and enjoy the life you gave me by sacrificing your own. Thank you Tomo, for everything you have done for me. I will never forget you. Thank you.”
Tegoshi looked at the grave for a long time and turned around to walk away with a smile on his lips. He had accepted the thing that had happened, and gotten it over. His heart felt lighter as he walked on and enjoyed the sunlight. It had taken him a long time to get things over, to leave his past behind him, but now he had achieved it. The things that had happened were maybe meant to happen, and he couldn’t do anything about it. He had finally understood and accepted that, even though it had been taking him years to do so. If the things that happened hadn’t happened, then he wouldn’t be with Masuda now, wouldn’t be as happy as he was with him now. It was that thought that had made him accept his fate, or whatever it was that made his life like it was. He was happy with Masuda, and to be honest, he wouldn’t change him to Yamashita. He and Yamashita had shared a beautiful relationship, but they remained in the past. His future was with Masuda, and he wanted to look forward to a bright and happy future, not dig himself down in a dark and painful past.
His heart felt light now, as if the last trace of sadness and pain had disappeared, had flown out of him along with all the tears he had shed.
Tegoshi walked down the street, taking the time he walked home to think about things. He and Masuda had been a couple for three years now, three wonderful and happy years. They had built up a beautiful relationship, filled with love and trust, and things seemed to finally have calmed down a bit. Tegoshi felt how his lips curled up in a smile when he thought about Masuda. Masuda had changed Tegoshi’s life forever, and Tegoshi was glad that he had. When he was with Masuda, he felt whole, felt like he didn’t need anything else in the world. And he knew that Masuda felt the same way towards him too.
Tegoshi looked at his side, and saw a few kids play in the park. He smiled when he saw them, loved to see how they played with each other with sparkling eyes. He saw them run away, towards a young couple that stood a bit away. If Tegoshi could wish one more thing in his life, it was for him and Masuda to have a kid. Koyama and Shige’s daughter had grown a lot, and Tegoshi had seen it on Masuda, the more she grew, the more he wanted a child too. Tegoshi felt the exactly same way, but they had problems to get accepted to adopt. Tegoshi had tried to hide his disappointment, but Masuda had told him that they had to be patient, after all, Koyama and Shige had succeeded even if it had been taking years.
Tegoshi continued to walk, there was no meaning in getting moody because of a thing like that. He had Masuda, and as long as they were together anything would get solved.
Tegoshi took his time to walk home, needing to think about things by himself. He took an extra turn around the park instead of walking home directly. He needed this time alone before seeing Masuda again. Not because he felt guilt towards Yamashita like he had done before, but because he knew Masuda was worried about him, and he wanted to show Masuda that he had accepted everything and had gotten it over.
He sat in the park for a while, just breathing the fresh air and trying to be calm. After sitting there for a while, he decided to go home. He wanted to see Masuda, and for the first time, he wanted to come home to him and not break down at this date. He knew that Masuda would be more than reviled if he came home calm, and not stained with tears.
Tegoshi could see the apartment building now, and smiled when he saw the light in the windows of their apartment. That showed that Masuda didn’t have to work over-time and was at home right now. He hurried up the stairs and opened the door to their apartment when he reached it, felt himself smiling when he saw Koyama and Shige in the hallway. They were smiling brightly at him when he entered. Their little daughter Yuuko, came running towards him. Tegoshi felt himself smiling, bending down.
“Hii, Yuuko. I can’t understand that you’ve become this big.”
Yuuko smiled brightly and grabbed his hand, dragging him towards the living room. “Tego, Massu has a surprise for you!”
Tegoshi laughed and followed her, feeling how curiosity filled him up. “What a surprise?”
Yuuko laughed. “Yuuko can’t tell you, then it won’t be a surprise, stupid Tego!”
Tegoshi laughed and looked around in the living room, Massu sat at the couch with something in his arms, and Tegoshi felt how his heart almost stopped when he realized what it was. Yuuko let go of his hand. “Tego has become a dad.”
Tegoshi could feel his eyes tear up when he walked towards Masuda.
“This can’t be real…” He sat down beside Masuda and looked at the child in Masuda’s arms. Their child. Masuda put and arm around his waist.
“This is real. You once said that everything would get solved as long that we’re together. What a truth that was. This is our son.”
Tegoshi looked at Masuda, who smiled brightly, eyes showing only pure love. He reached his hand out to lightly touch the warm little boy. More tears escaped his eyes when the little creature grabbed his thumb and looked like he was smiling.
“Massu, how did you…?”
Masuda just smiled. “With stubbornness, a little patience and lots of love everything can get solved.”
Tegoshi lifted the little boy up and held him gently in his arms. “Does he have a name?”
Masuda swallowed. “They told me that his name is Tomohisa.”
Tegoshi just looked at Masuda, eyes wide in surprise. Then he looked at Tomohisa with a smile on his face. “I see. It suits him, it’s a beautiful name.”
Masuda gave him a kiss on the cheek. “I was scared that you wouldn’t like it.”
Tegoshi laughed quietly. “You always worry about me, don’t you?”
Masuda’s cheeks took a shade of pink and he smiled shyly. “I guess I do…”
Tegoshi laughed. “Well, you better stop doing that, because now you have other things than me to worry about.”
Masuda smiled. “You’re right. And I probably don’t need to worry about you anymore.”
Tegoshi laughed at the statement. “Looks like your Yuya have become a big boy.”
Tegoshi heard a little giggle and looked to his side, where Yuuko sat, smiling. “Is Tego and Massu happy?”
Tegoshi ruffled her hair. “We are. We’re very happy.”
Koyama lifted the little girl up and sat down beside Tegoshi, putting Yuuko on his lap. “You should’ve seen the look on Massu’s face when he got the call. He had a hard time hiding it from you.”
Tegoshi looked at Masuda, who just smiled. “I…wanted to surprise you.”
Tegoshi felt his eyes tear up once again. “Massu, I…thank you so much.”
****
Tegoshi didn’t remember ever being this happy, ever feeling this satisfied with his life. He thought about it when he held the sleeping Tomohisa in his arms, if he hadn’t been so unhappy before, then he maybe wouldn’t be this happy now. Maybe it really was meant to be like this. Tegoshi grabbed the warm little hand and squeezed it lightly.
He looked up and saw Masuda walking towards him, two cups of tea in his hands. He sat down beside Tegoshi and put and arm around his shoulders. Tegoshi rested his head on Masuda’s shoulder and sighed happily. “We’re really a family now, aren’t we?”
Masuda squeezed his shoulder. “We are.”
“Massu?”
“Hmm?”
“I’m so glad that I met you.”
Masuda laughed quietly before grabbing Tegoshi’s hand. “I’m glad that I met you too.”
Masuda let go of Tegoshi’s hand and caressed Tomohisa’s cheek lightly. “It feels like all of our dreams are coming true.”
Tegoshi gave him a kiss on the cheek. “We’ve been through a lot of pain and survived. Finally things are going our way.”
Masuda nodded. “I’m glad we survived everything together. I’m so glad that we’re still together.”
Tegoshi leaned his head on Masuda’s shoulder and closed his eyes. “We will always be together, right?”
Masuda grabbed his hand and squeezed it. “Yes, forever.”
