I'm so excited! I'll be retiring on June 30 after 25 years as bookkeeper in our small school district. There are only a couple of people ineligible for union membership in our district because of "confidential" status -- my friend, Holly, with 23 years, is the other one. That is so terrible that they aren't including you. Actually, it's pretty terrible to have a party for one person and not another.

If I were your friend, I'd decline to attend my own retirement party unless the decision was reversed. You deserve something just as much as she does.

This only makes me dislike unions more. :(

And it's funny -- I'd finally, at this point in my life, become sympathetic to the union. I'm just waiting for someone to tell me not to take it personally ;)

That is such bullshit! Sorry but there simply isn't another word for it. Do you suppose it'd be poor form for me to crash this party and deliver a little speech about how shameful this behavior is?? I'll even take a day off for the occasion! Grr...
