a west side story

My ongoing confusion about New York City continues. Founded in media images, enhanced by sporadic visits over the years, I always have trouble coming to a coherent view of the city's complexities. Hey, I'm with you on the not-living-in-NY thing. I just got here and already I'm ready to go home . . . too many people, too many cars, too expensive . . . I'm going to a show here, too, but I won't get sucked into the romance of it, I won't . . . (although I'm sure I'll weaken when I get to Central Park, the Guggenheim, and the Met . . . )

A nice not-so-nice send up of NYC. I love that city. I never lived there but always wanted to. I think that everything you are saying is true, but I have had such lovely moments there: speaking to old ladies at a Greek restaurant at 10pm on a Tuesday, running into Jim Jarmusch in SOHO...literally running into him; he was in a hurry, visiting the Lower East Side Tenement Museum and then getting reflexology foot massages in Chinatown (I hightly recommend both). I have many poor friends who live there and one rich friend who USED to live in Grammercy Park. If I were to live in New York, I'd want to have her income...a very different life in NY if you have money.

I hope you enjoy the show and keep writing. I really enjoy your posts.
