The Blood of Cuchulainn

The above song I want in the soundtrack of my life (it is from the opening credits of "Boondock Saints" and can be found at the bottom of this page). And no, I do not want to become a religious vigilante. The song is a marvelous work of Irish music, the melody is inspirational, proud, defiant...but there is an underlying hint of tragedy, a hint ( Read more... )

Woohoo, another Messiah fan!

You shoulda gone to Duke...I would be willing to put the Chapel Choir's version up against anyone else's, and the annual "Three days...three performances...three hours each: The Messiah Marathon - CAN YOU HANDEL IT?" experience is second to none.

Eh well. You pays your money and you takes your choice.

I like "Worthy Is The Lamb." And the Amen canon at the end is...sublime. Except I started crying the last time I sang it.

It is funny that you mention Boondock Saints because I just saw that movie for the first time a few weeks ago...I don't remember the song, but from what you say it sounds like you.

Oh, and make sure you have "Hedwig's Theme".

I think I'll have to do my own post about this at some point, but here are three for your consideration:

"Are You Out There" by Dar Williams is a song for coming messily undone late at night a) in a hotel room in a strange city or b) down a highway as fast as possible.

"Libre" by El Chaval de la Peca I have earmarked as my song for when I finish my PhD, because one lyric (translated) runs "Free...like the bird who flees its prison and can fly at last." Handel's "Zadok The Priest" will also feature at this time.

"I Don't Want To Live On The Moon" is a song from Sesame Street and is a good song for homesickness.
