Um, yeah. About this whole posting thing...

So. Yeah. I kind of suck at doing livejournal. Granted I've been really busy this summer, but perhaps I should post more than once every two months or so. Yeah...

Work - is going well. I've been doing stability testing for a nanoporous material here at the lab. Some spiffy stuff that I have to be vague about. But it could help clean up the Hanford Site (icky, icky, icky radioactive waste) much quicker than it's being remediated right now. :-) I like what I'm doing and understand (most of) it. My boss is amazing and just the right amount laid-back and hands-off. I can be my own person and figure things out on my own...but she's happy to answer any questions I have. Current plans are to come back here to work next summer!

I now know for certain that I want to go into environmental chemistry, so I'm looking at grad schools that offer programs or at least concentrations in that field. There are actually quite a few, but I start to have problems when I actually look at what professors at said universities are doing for research. Not so many people out there doing what I'm interested in - environmental remediation, or research based more in hydrology and geochemistry than organic chemistry. However, promising possibilities are Colorado School of Mines, Washington State, University of British Columbia, University of Colorado, Boulder, Colorado State University, and Memorial University of Newfoundland (????) So...it looks likely that I will be moving out West after graduation. Well...I've done Midwest and now I've done East...time for a change, eh?

I've been busy outside of work too, even aside from working on my Monroe Project and studying for the GREs (UGH). The apartment I live in is a suite with six separate rooms (each with their own bathrooms) and a common space/kitchen/living room. I've gone on several roadtrips with three of the people I'm living with. We've gone off to Leavenworth, WA ("Bavarian" Village of the West), Grand Coulee Dam, Mount Rainier, Mount St Helen's, and as of this weekend, Seattle. For the most part it's been fun, although for me the Mount Rainier weekend (both Mount Rainier and Mount St Helen's) was by far the highlight and Seattle was the least fun. They've been a good group to roadtrip with; for the most part we travel quite well together.

So...that's been my life of late, plus a little residual ANGST! from this past spring semester. Perhaps I will update later with a little more pizazz, as this is pretty much cut and dry. Bed now.
