Revolutionary Girl Utena episodes 1-13

Jan 24, 2012 22:32

So watching Mawaru Penguindrum reminded me that I have long meant to rewatch Revolutionary Girl Utena. Although I think rewatch isn't quite the word, because like 10 years ago I attempted to watch it and it just didn't stick. And so it was put back on my eternal "Things Kristen would like to watch in full before she dies" list and languished ( Read more... )

I didn't think Sakano in Gravitation was a dick. Though to be fair, neither is he at ALL the typical Koyasu Takehito character. Or sound.

Hotohori from Fushigi Yuugi wasn't a douchebag.

You wouldn't be alone in that. Miki is the only truly nice male character...well, out of the main ones. There's a few secondary males who aren't quite as douchey later on.

Oh right, Fushigi Yuugi. I admit I have blocked out on most Yuu Watase stuff, but at least he still has the fountains of hair. LOL 90s anime.

All I really know is every time I see Touga's douchetastic face I want to punch him through the screen.

...wait, didn't Koyasu also do Zechs's voice in GW?

He did indeed. But Zechs is kind of douchebag as well. A genocidal paternalistic one at that.

Oh man I haven't seen this series in a long while. My friends like it, but nobody talks about older anime anymore.

Also I love that voice actor oh my godddddddddd. ♥

It is indeed very interesting and good, even if the animation quality is often somewhat lacking.

I admit Koyasu is one of those seiyuu that I just laugh at all the time. Maybe because of Weiss Kreuz...no it is definitely due to Weiss Kreuz. And pretty much the majority of his most recent roles.

I love the WTF movie to pieces <3 I haven't watched the full series, but I like the movie even better than what I've seen of the series, if only because it's so blatantly Utena/Anthy OTP5ever (dat meen dey luv each uthur moar dan 4ever).

Miki is love <3

I prefer the series because obviously it develops the characters a bit more and well I love Nanami in all her effed up fabulousness. I kind of view the movie in the same way I view the Escaflowne movie. Very pretty to look it and some nice OTP mimwnts but are a bit lacking in coherency and character.

Miki is one of those characters I like just fine but I just don't have that much emotional investment outside of a few of their interactions with other characters.

I've only seen the first four and the last episode, actually, so I can't really speak with any certainty as to which I'd ultimately like better, but I still love the movie, if only because I wrote an essay on it during my free time, and I tend to lvoe anything I write for-fun essays on :3 I can see where there's not enough time for as much depth in character development, but I didn't think it lacked coherency at all, though.

I have a thing for adorabishies XD

The series is definitely something you should see as a whole. Like it wasn't until I reached 13 that all the previous episodes came together for me in a way. The show is extremely metaphysical in a lot of ways.

I am just very particular when it comes to fictional dudes and whether I am invested in them or not. I am just weird I suppose.
