Don't know if this might work on little boys, but one of my good friends potty trained her daughter by letting her run around pantless and panty-less. One instance of pee running down her leg did the trick.
Good luck on it. From what I understand it can be a righteous pain in the ass.
Yeah, with little boys the pee doesn't run down the leg so much as spurt out covering everything BUT said little boy. I thought peeing in undies with it all running down and wet would be gross enough, but since he did it 3 times today, either he doesn't mind, or he can't control it.
This is just my opinion (feel free to try it out or not- I won't be bummed) Looks like he cried when he was in the wet undies...don't "rush" to clean him up. If he's uncomfortable and unhappy being wet, that's a good thing! I saw a show where they used a doll to help. They had the little boy "teach" the doll how to go on the potty. When the doll "peed" the mom made a huge deal, cheering/dancing/etc...then asked her son if he wanted to try. Fill him up with juice, and just put him on the potty...don't ask. Eventually you'll catch him in time, and he'll do it in the right place. Go nuts! If he sees what a party it is to pee on the potty...well it's a start.
Boys can take a long time, try not to get too stressed about it. We spent a whole summer trying to get my nephew ready because he was going to start school and it was extremely frustrating. It got to the point where he wouldn't want to go out unless he was reassured there would be a toilet. He actually started school in his training pants and it was the realization that most of the other kids wore undies that made him really try. Basically he did it when he was ready.
Is he doing his, uh, number twos in the potty? I found it far easier to get Drew to grasp the concept of doing that in the potty, and then when we had that down, she had a better understanding of how the potty thing worked and urine training was a lot easier.
Has he been around other little kids who use the potty? I'm wondering if he doesn't make the connection with you and Kyle peeing because you're not using his potty. Maybe if he saw another kid pee in the potty and then get a treat, it would make it more clear.
The only reason I'm piping up (since I'm kidless- what do I know?) is that my Mom told me that I basically trained myself because my brother was still using the potty when I got to that age. I think I read somewhere that kids with older siblings learn potty training more quickly for that reason.
For what it's worth, kids are all different. Lots of experts say that most kids don't have decent bladder control until they're at least three. I know GhoulChicklet didn't pee in the potty reliably until she was 3 1/2, and didn't poop in the potty until... shoot. Four? 4 1/2? It was some ridiculously old age. Ah, yes. She was 4 1/2. I'm not saying you want it to take that long, I'm just sayin
