A D&D character post

A post about Teyala, the Tiefling Bard that I play in the tuesday D&D game (poorly pictured in the post icon). It feels like it's about time I wrote one.

Teyala. Who is this girl?

Teyala is young for an adventurer, if adventurer is the right word to describe her. Summing her up in brevity, you could say she's carefree, naïve, and curious.

Her life is quite simple. Having been separated from her parents at a young age while travelling from city to city in a performance troupe (she just followed a strange squirrel into some woods,) she's wandered around from place to place for a few years.

Since leaving her parents, she's made two friends, a ghostly spirit companion called Chalk and a dark familiar called Tar who go with her everywhere, two squirrels that are just slightly shorter than she is. She's learned so many tricks from them, and learned things as she's moved from place to place. They've always encouraged her to stay on the move, and have always taken care of her as if they were her own parents, so Teyala has never settled anywhere, or been able to stay with anyone who has tried to adopt her.

Teyala is not really used to other people, although she is able to get along with most and is really well meaning. She does care about people in the broad sense and tries to always do the right thing, although from a child's perspective she doesn't always realise when she's doing something that isn't right or nice. Thanks to her easygoing and well meaning nature though she is open to people pointing out her mistakes, although if someone is mean about it her feelings can be hurt by it. Teyala is usually quite trusting of others, and isn't suspicious of other people at all, even if other people can sometimes be a little put off by her infernal heritage. Contrary to the Tieflings stereotypical nature, she tends not to be as aggressive or angry as other Tieflings, and it's very rare to see her actively bear malice against someone.

Teyala has always been a curious child, and often bounds off to explore new places enthusiastically. This hasn't usually had the result of her getting into trouble, although she has had a few close calls that she didn't realise were close calls. She doesn't really think ahead too carefully, and it usually shows when she happily wanders off down a new passageway ahead of everyone. That said, should she find herself in trouble, she's developed more than a few ways of staying alive. Competently fighting with small shield and sickle, and using her voice and bardic magic, as well as throwing around some interesting tricks that she's learned along the way; learned by watching people of other classes doing things and then replicating the ability and effects through bardic magic, or even developing new spells entirely that seem uncannily familiar. While it may seem like the girl is multiclassed, she has really just spent time learning how to make bardic magic work like other magic she has seen in the past.

As for long term plans, Teyala doesn't really have any. She'll probably just keep wandering around, usually with people who are interesting. She's not really motivated by money (the squirrels keep her well fed and looked after, and there's nothing she wants that she really needs lots of money for) or by greed. She understands the need for tools and items for their utility, but she doesn't hoard loot for the sake of it, she's more likely to give something to someone else if it looks like they need it more. She's not really motivated by companionship either, given the squirrels role in her life. She's probably most motivated by the need to explore and see new things, although she's far too young for that to be codified into an actual goal for her.
