I dated a guy for awhile that was into the heavy kink scene, and he had many straight friends into it as well. It was interesting to have an inside view to that world.

There was a married couple who were good friends of his, and while the wife was bi (isn't that always the way?), the husband was very straight. My bf was in lust with him, and the husband would do bondage scenes with him, but no "sex." His line was "I'll tie you up, whip you, flog you, torture you, but I won't have sex with you..." He really seemed to do it out of friendship and love - basically, doing what he could do for his friend (my bf) because they were so close, but not crossing certain boundaries. It seemed very genuine.

I'd say meet up with him/start the discussion. If I learned anything about the kink world during my short stay, it's that the participants love to negotiate the terms of a scene...
